The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the long-standing historical inequities in education. It widened pre-existing opportunity and achievement gaps, hitting historically disadvantaged students hardest, both academically and emotionally. These students are in danger of falling behind grade levels, dropping out of school and restricting opportunities far into adulthood.
According to a study on “unfinished learning” by McKinsey & Company, 97% of educators reported their students are in jeopardy of being held back a grade or struggling to keep up with their current grade level.
The number of students DUYA serves has doubled due to COVID learning loss and a new partnership with LAUSD, which requires more tutors to accommodate the demand of tutoring support. DUYA is adding a customized learning program to assess each student’s current level and needs. This includes both in-person and online services at our new learning center, pre and post diagnostic testing, personalized learning plans, mental health support, and parent/tutor conferences to help educate parents about their student's learning goals.
All funds raised will go towards recruiting high-level tutors with expertise in math, reading, and language arts. We would be grateful for any donations you can contribute to help DUYA continue to provide these high quality tutoring services to the students that need it the most.
To thank you for your support and to help learn more about DUYA, we will be hosting a “Meet the Founder” event at the end of this campaign, scheduled for Wednesday November 3rd at 6:30PM via Zoom. Supporters will have the opportunity to meet DUYA’s founder, Dynasty Taylor, and learn about how she built DUYA from the ground up. Dynasty is not only a leader in her community but has been nominated for the Inspiration Women’s Award by the LA Times and the Points of Light Inspiration Honor Roll.
