The Bryant Physician Assistant Program will be collaborating with the Maddie Potts Foundation to host this fundraiser for Clínica Esperanza. The Maddie Potts Foundation diligently works to give back to the Rhode Island community by offering scholarships, facility upgrades, and opportunities for individuals and populations with disabilities. The program as a whole is very excited to work with this foundation as we raise money to benefit Clìnica Esperanza.
Clínica Esperanza (Hope Clinic), a 501(c) 3 organization, offers primary medical care to Rhode Island residents without health insurance, with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking and culturally accustomed care. The clinic helps tackle a major problem and unnecessary cost in the American healthcare system: overuse of the emergency department for non-emergent medical needs. Since 2010, they have served more than 10,000 patients, 80% of whom are Spanish-speaking, through the clinic and health education programs. Free healthcare is provided by a team of multi-lingual volunteers and core staff. At Clinica Esperanza, they believe healthcare is a human right and access to quality care should be available to all.
All of the proceeds will be directly used to stock the clinic medical supplies, provide support for patient health education programs, and provide patients with home medical devices. Furthermore, this clinic creates invaluable learning experiences and professional development for future healthcare professionals from both the Bryant PA Program and Brown Warren Alpert Medical School.
