Mental Health for Intersectional Youth

At The AAKOMA Project, we believe that to meet the mental health needs of intersectional BIPOC Teens and Young Adults, we must operate at three levels - raising consciousness among individuals, empowering people with accessible tools for ongoing mental health and care management, and changing systems to allow them to better receive youth and provide equitable, more effective care.

Our CORE STRATEGIES include:

RAISING CONSCIOUSNESS as we ensure that BIPOC young people are aware of the importance of their mental health and that young people and caregivers can have the ability to share, support, and understand the young people’s experience with mental health.

EMPOWERING PEOPLE by providing tools and resources for intersectional BIPOC youth and their caregivers to manage their own wellbeing and mental health in a timely, accessible, and approachable way and when needed, connect to more formal and/or clinical service offerings for support.

CHANGING THE SYSTEM by supporting the buildout of a set of systems and services equipped to receive intersectional BIPOC youth and their caregivers and address their unique needs via a qualified workforce, using culturally relevant/fluent evidence-based services and interventions, and accessible supports.
