February is a very purposeful time for each of us to reflect on the causes and nonprofits that we care about - as individuals and also within our companies, organizations and communities. We invite you to consider making donations to the following list of organizations that are highlighted this month based on a calendar of traditional cause themes and days of special recognition.
You will also notice each cause’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is a global framework that was adopted by the United Nations in 2015 to address the world’s most pressing causes.

Black History Month
SDG Alignment: #10 Reduced Inequalities
Black History Month is celebrated every February as an homage to the achievements of African Americans who have shaped history here in the US and around the world. It’s a time to honor the historical achievements of the Black community. This month encourages everyone to share, celebrate and understand the profound impact of Black heritage and culture. Nonprofit organizations whose missions and programs align with this month include:
National Cancer Prevention Awareness Month
SDG Alignment: #3 Good Health and Well-Being
National Cancer Prevention Awareness Month aims to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. By being aware of certain risk factors that increase the likelihood of cancers, people can start to make healthier lifestyle choices and be recommended for cancer screenings that often lead to early detection. Nonprofit organizations whose missions and programs align with this month include:
February 3rd - National Girl & Women in Sports Day
SDG Alignment: #3 Good Health and Well-Being and #5: Gender Equality
This year marks the 35th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day. Every year, this celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. This year, with the COVID-19 pandemic, they recognize the importance of staying mentally and physically healthy during challenging times. Whether virtual or other, they invite everyone to safely celebrate this day and join the Women’s Sports Foundation as they “Lead Her Forward” in 2021.
February 5th - Wear Red Day and American Heart Month
SDG Alignment: #3 Good Health and Well-Being
American Heart Month is a federally designated event that encourages Americans to focus on their heart health and get their families, friends and communities involved. Did you know that cardiovascular diseases continue to be a woman’s greatest health threat, despite the fact that nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented? Go Red for Women and Wear Red Day on February 5th are the American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiatives to help increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally.
February 11th - International Day of Women & Girls in Science
SDG Alignment: #5 Gender Equality and #9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Since being proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, this day is honored every year to recognize, support and encourage the critical role that women and girls play in science and technology. According to UNESCO data, less than 30 percent of researchers worldwide are women. Together we can change this narrative by removing all barriers that hold them back. Join the conversation online with #WomenInScience. Nonprofit organizations whose missions and programs align with this day include:
February 15th - International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day
SDG Alignment: #3 Good Health and Well-Being

February 15th - Presidents Day
SDG Alignment: #17 Partnerships for the Goals
Celebrated each year on the third Monday in February, Presidents Day has become a day for Americans to honor those who have held the highest office and their collective good works. Over the years, much of their good works have brought much needed awareness and support to nonprofit organizations which seek to serve communities at large across the US and around the world. Here are a few of those organizations and the American presidents who have supported nonprofits in major ways beyond their Presidencies:
- Habitat for Humanity has long been associated with Former President Jimmy Carter.
- Points of Light Foundation was inspired by Former President George H.W. Bush’s inaugural address, which invoked a vision of a “thousand points of light” and invited the nation to take action through service to their fellow citizens.
- March of Dimes Foundation was launched following a personal fundraising appeal made nationwide by Former President Franklin Roosevelt who himself contracted polio in his late thirties.
Lastly, we want to continue recognizing how Racial Justice and COVID-19 remain important causes to support throughout the year:
