Welcome to the fundraiser page for "Carmen" aka "Stellar Performer" (18 Year Old Quarter Horse Mare)," a dedicated initiative aimed at supporting the beautiful mare" Carmen" in continuing to lead a supportive and healthy life. We invite you to join us in this heartfelt mission to ensure that "Carmen" can continue to receive the care and love she deserves, all while benefiting the incredible nonprofit organization, Melody's Haven of Hope at Oregon Horsemanship.  "Carmen" has moved on and off sanctuary during her time spent with us.  We constantly analyze her health and well being so we know that she is doing well.

"Carmen" was taken in by someone we knew from a local feed store.  She was dropped off on their driveway from a previous owner when they were not able to sell her for the big bucks she should have been worth.  Battered physically and checked out emotionally she had suffered at the hands of people that wanted to win and win big.  She showed the trauma of having lived most of her life in a stall except when she was worked or trained and didn't know how to socialize with other horses.  When the person realized "Carmen" would never be a cow horse ("Carmen" was a show horse and didn't like cow life) she offered to drop her off to see if she would work in our program.  Basically, falling out of the cow trailer, she stepped in a stall and heaved a big sigh of relief as it was what she was used to.  The person who brought her to us really wanted her to have a great life that she so deserved.  She couldn't believe they would just "drop her off", but that is the way we've seen it all too often.  She would never have passed a vet check or would be sound again without intervention.  After a lot of cost and months of rehabilitation, it was deemed that she is "serviceable sound" she is a part of our barn home and loved by many.  We will do what we can to continue her care, love and maintenance but we need your help.  These overused, emotionally abused horses deserve to know the life we give them.  Everyone comments that "she is beautiful" and I say that is why she lived the life she did.  Any amount big or small will help to continue giving these horses the home they deserve with emotional love and physical care for them and their aging bodies.
