The Nation of Diversity is fundraising for one of our most impactful initiatives. Our goal for this project is to help at least 5 homeless women in our community to get back on their feet and lead a healthy, happy life. Throughout the year, we will have multiple fundraisers to achieve this goal. We aspire to raise $50,000 to fund this initiative and help these strong women.
To achieve this goal we will need to:
Partner with a transitional home organization that will lead to permanent housing. These organizations help people apply for jobs, receive physical and mental health care, and develop budgeting proficiency and trade skills applicable to their desired job field.
Arrange for an individual case management team including a therapist, life coach, mental health resource, and other advocates
Provide peer support and creative art therapy to inspire positive shifts in mindset that will result in physical, mental, and spiritual growth
This process will be documented and kept on track by monthly group sessions and individual progress check-ups
A little about us:
We are a hands-on organization that works directly with the people we serve. We connect homeless individuals with the proper resources and support to help them overcome the the adversity they are facing, working directly with them to provide critical resources and impactful initiatives like:
Extensive support for the homeless community: providing hygiene kits, clothing, blankets, and nutritious meals to individuals and other support networks
Community empowerment programs that allow us to advocate for those we serve by building bridges and facilitating larger discussions with local governments, supporters, and the public
A monthly peer support creative arts wellness workshop using the platforms of creativity and engagement to help create a culture of mindfulness for those we serve
Community empowerment programs that advocate for those we serve by building bridges and facilitating larger discussions with local governments, supporters, and the public.
Our mission is to help reduce homelessness and raise awareness for mental health through service to the community and hosting wellness events. We believe in breaking down stigmas that demonize the homeless and work to promote mindfulness through creative arts. We work daily to change the stigma associated with homelessness, poverty, and mental health by working across boundaries and leveraging resources to enrich the lives of those living in underserved and marginalized communities.
Previously:
In 2022 we helped two individuals out of homelessness and into a comfortable life.
Our first outreach collaboration was with a woman named Angel. A common activity we do at the NOD is one-on-one outreach where we meet with individuals that are panhandling and take them out to a restaurant to talk with them and share a hot meal. During one of these outings we met Angel. She was only 24 years old and was pregnant. Out panhandling in the cold, you could hardly tell she was pregnant due to how tiny she was.
We began taking her out often, providing resources and finding shelters she could stay at. Eventually she received a voucher to stay in a transitional apartment. She then was able to get a job and started work right away at a retail store. She had her baby in August of 2022, and we provided all the resources she needed for her and her baby.
Our second story is about Juanita. She was referred to us by one of the organizations we partner with. Juanita is 65 years old and suffers from diabetes. Her husband recently passed away, and since then she has been on the street for over three years.
When we connected with Juanita and learned more about her goals and how we could help, we decided to work virtually with her so we could provide her a place in Florida so she could escape the cold weather. We worked with her to apply for group homes and shelters and she was eventually accepted to a woman's home in November.
With your help and support we can put this type of energy into helping five individuals this year!
