Emergency Support Services

The Emergency Support Service's program provides volunteer support before, during and after any local disaster or emergency situation that affects residents in Flagler County.  When a disaster strikes volunteers provide assistance as needed with the following:

• Sandbags
• Call Center
• Traffic Control
• Shelter Assistance (including pet shelters, general population and special needs shelters)
• Feeding
• Points of Distribution - water, supplies, etc.
• Cleanup - including debris pickup in resident's yards, tree removal to the curb - chainsaw assistance if necessary, tarping roofs, muck out of homes, etc.
• Wellness Checks
• Volunteer Coordination with outside agencies (also oversees the local COAD - Community Organizations Active in Disasters)
• Oversee Long Term Recovery efforts if a major disaster hits.
• Other needs as requested.

Flagler Volunteer Services also partners with Flagler County Emergency Management and other disaster focused agencies to provide a variety of trainings to prepare our volunteers to respond.  

Trainings include:

• CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Basic Training - this 30 hour training teaches residents to prepare for, respond to, and assist in recovering for local emergencies.  CERT is a nationally certified curriculum that allows people to train with subject matter experts.
• Learn About Volunteering in Emergency Management Workshop
• Disaster Psychology First Aid
• CPR for Disaster Volunteers
• First Aid for Disaster Volunteers
• Tarping and Muck Out Basics for Disaster Cleanup
• Evacuation Shelter Training
• Civillian Traffic Control Class
• Disaster Call Center Training
• Intro to Disaster Radio Communications

This program's purpose is to ensure our county is resilient if a disaster strikes.  

Funds raised with support materials for disaster cleanup efforts and/or training materials for volunteers including backpacks for CERT students.
