Kiwi (18 Year Old Paint Mare)

Throughout her life with us, "Kiwi" (18 year old Paint Mare) has faced several physical challenges. She has navigated issues such as navicular disease, requiring special farrier work to include shoeing, X-rays, and consistent maintenance. Recently, we detected insulin resistance after observing multiple signs.  The vet suggested blood work and we, of course, agreed.  The numbers came back high and we continue to monitor them (which does require a test each time). This condition necessitates special medication, low-sugar hay, and a dry paddock for her well-being. If "Kiwi's" needs are not continuously met, she risks developing founder, a painful condition that can lead to serious, life-threatening complications.  We have also put "Kiwi" on a new product from DePaolo Equine Concepts that not only has digestive benefits, but helps their overall body, including joints, and we have seen a marked improvement in her attitude. As we all age both human and horse, we need added support to stay healthy and strong.
