The Marygrove Community Association is a Detroit based a 501 (c) 3 non-profit. We are an association of neighbors who volunteer our time to improve our neighborhood. Your donation to the Marygrove Civic Fund allows us to contribute to the building of an endowment fund that the Association will use to fund ongoing operations and maintain our signature programming that is held on the Marygrove Civic Commons . The endowment will be held and managed by the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan. An endowment will allow the Association to live within its means and continue to provide for the upkeep and maintenance of our assets as well as defray operating costs that come from conducting Association business.
The Marygrove Civic Commons
With our limited funds, and in partnership with community stakeholders, we have been able to acquire and renovate over an acre of land, where houses once stood, in our community. We call the collection of land parcels the Marygrove Civic Commons. Weather permitting, monthly community meetings are held on the Marygrove Civic Commons. These meetings provide opportunities for community members and government officials to discuss challenges and opportunities in bettering both our neighborhood and the city of Detroit.
More About the Association
Ongoing Association programming includes: a monthly outdoor movie club for neighborhood youth, an annual August neighborhood picnic that engages seniors and other community members, and holiday events during the months of November and December.
During the summer of 2023, and with expansion of our Indiana Street Garden, the Association will be launching a makers' and farmers' market to create opportunities for the rest of the community to learn about different approaches to healthy and nutritious eating . In addition, a garden program will grow youths' interest in horticulture and entrepreneurship. Youth will participate in a learn to earn program where they will receive instruction in horticulture and entrepreneurship and then put these to work in maintaining the community garden and serving as market assistants in the coming farmers' and makers' market. Lastly, the youth will develop and co-own and operate a business that provides property maintenance to the the Association's Civic Commons.
Your donation to the Marygrove Civic Fund will help to sustain the efforts of the Association for generations to come.
