The American Nurses Foundation is dedicated to transforming the nation's health through the power of nursing.
Have you met Kimether Redmon, NP? The ongoing demands of the pandemic have left her stressed and burned out. She clocked out at the end of her shifts – but she could never leave her work behind. She had been around sickness before – but this was different. She was at a breaking point. She knew she needed help – but where could she go? Kimether came to the American Nurses Foundation – and we were ready to give her the direct relief she desperately needed. “I love that resources were made available to nurses during COVID, but to be honest a lot of the benefits we just didn’t have the time or energy to take advantage of. Don’t get me wrong, every nurse appreciates a free cup of coffee, a donut, or a discount. But at the end of the day, those things are not going to actually heal us from the trauma that we’ve been dealing with, not only during COVID, but throughout nursing for many decades. It’s not going to heal us from the medical trauma that we observe on a regular basis. It’s not going to heal us from workplace violence. It’s not going to repair our spirit when it seems like nursing is trying to break us. It’s not going to give us the motivation to keep coming back to work and dealing with the challenges over and over again. But a resource like Happy that the American Nurses Foundation provided is meeting nurses where they are, reaching out to nurses directly. I personally have been able to benefit tremendously from that. I love that I can call the main number 24/7. I want every nurse to take full advantage of it.” in 2022, over 300,000 nurses like Kimether received responsive and preventative resources to support their mental health and well-being. Nurses had their energy restored to continue caring for millions of patients, including ourselves and our loved ones. But we’ve only scratched the surface. This is why we need you. Additional contributions will provide nurses with crucial resources – educational webinars, podcasts, the Happy call line for nurses to speak directly to individuals providing support, apps to help nurses set and track goals around their own well-being, workshops, and toolkits for mental well-being practices in the workplace. Nurses have been called “heroes.” But their experience isn’t like the heroes we see in movies. They are on the frontlines, battling exhaustion and burnout. You are critical to the future of nursing and to the ongoing care of nurses across the country. Nurses save lives every day. Today, you can help save them.
