Our Mission

Develop Africa strategically empowers lives in Africa by providing educational opportunities and strengthening self-reliance so that individuals, families, and communities can create positive change in their own lives.

We provide school supplies, scholarships, solar lights (so kids can study at night), mosquito nets (to keep children safe from malaria), computer/vocational training etc. We additionally provide microfinance loans, orphan care, and disaster relief. This helps them become self-sufficient and rise above the poverty line. When individuals and families are strengthened, they can contribute towards community, national and international progress.

Forty-five (25 girls and 20 boys) beneficiaries participated in an inter-mentoring debating competition about whether or not formal education is the key to personal success. The goal of the debating competition was to improve beneficiaries' research and public speaking skills and to shed light on formal education and personal success. Eight beneficiaries participated in the debate; four girls from the girls' mentoring group and four boys from the boys mentoring group. The boys mentoring group supported the motion that formal education is the key to personal success while the girls mentoring group disagreed with the motion. Each speaker spoke for eight minutes and the debaters’ discussed series of points to support their stands.

Financial literacy is very crucial in the development of young people and was the focus of a recent boys' mentoring session. The session was attended by 22 boys, who each received transportation to the mentoring session and lunch. Mr. Abass K., an experienced audit associate, was the guest speaker. He covered several key points during his presentation: 1. General concepts of financial literacy 2. Balancing needs and wants 3. The importance of savings The guest speaker also emphasized the significance of financial literacy, highlighting that a lack of understanding in this area can lead to various challenges. Financial illiteracy may result in accumulating unsustainable debt burdens due to poor spending decisions or a lack of long-term preparation. Participants actively contributed, sharing their perspectives and asking pertinent questions. They also expressed their appreciation for this valuable mentoring session. We deeply appreciate your ongoing support, as it enables us to conduct more mentoring sessions and provide educational resources to the future leaders of Sierra Leone.
