Hi! My name is Monica. I am a substitute teacher in Newark from Hackensack, NJ. I am currently in recovery from sarcoma cancer. I will be forever grateful for davidsdreamandbelieve.org. David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation was a bright light that shined on me during my darkest hour facing cancer. Along with the stress of cancer surgery I was running almost empty in my checking account stressing out on how I was going to pay my bills while healing from cancer. I reached out to David's Dream & Believe Foundation and this beautiful organization came through for me helping me financially when I needed it most. I cannot thank you enough for everything DDBCF! Cancer has always been all around me in my line of work and who does not know someone affected by it in today’s world. Unfortunately, a year ago cancer touched my life, twice in just a couple of months. In April of 2022, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and just a few months later, in July, with Colorectal cancer. This news is devastating to anyone and as a working single mother of 3, one with special needs himself, I was crushed. The problem is a cancer diagnosis does not just affect the patient, it infects their entire life, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, their friends, family and support system and their entire way of life. My family and I were especially blessed to have mutual friends introduce us to David’s Dream and Believe early on and within weeks of my diagnosis, I had two patient advocates, Bridget, and Danielle, reach out to me as well as the founder, David himself. It was an incredible feeling to receive that immediate support from strangers. They assured me they would be here with us throughout the journey and asked to be kept in the loop and continued to check in regularly. This foundation has assisted my family financially and emotionally as well as provided endless resources for further support for the entire family. What sets them apart from others is their long-term commitment to each individual’s cancer journey. I am continuing my one-year battle/recovery and they are with me every step of the way. We are forever grateful to have them in our lives and only hope to one day pay it forward to other families as a positive and consistent support system is crucial to surviving this awful disease.
