Our Mission

In 2010, Community Education Partnerships (CEP) incorporated with the mission of increasing learning opportunities and enhancing the academic achievement of students experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Specifically, CEP works to ensure that all CEP students perform at or above grade level, are on track to graduate high school or receive an equivalent certificate, are socially and emotionally prepared for academic transitions, and find the joy and purpose of education. To achieve these goals, CEP recruits, screens, and trains volunteers to provide high-quality, individualized one-on-one academic tutoring and mentoring for pre-K – 12th-grade unhoused and unstably housed students.

“Tutoring is going well. Specifically, Izemma is seeming really upbeat and engaged. She has been up for memorizing her multiplication tables and reading more chapters of our joint book each week before our sessions. She has even started marking words she doesn’t know in her reading, so that we can discuss them when we meet.” -Pamela (Izemma's Tutor)

“I like the activities offered to the children, they are always enthused to attend. Both my grandchildren look forward to attending (the learning center) whenever it’s open.” - Kendyll's Nana

“Hello, my name is Antonio - my 6 yr. daughter and I are currently living at the Family Matters Shelter. The staff at the Children’s Learning Center have been really nice to me and my daughter and explained the rules and purpose of the program when she first started. My daughter has been attending the Learning Center after school and the first thing she tells me when I pick her up from school is how much she looks forward to being at the Learning Center. It really says a lot. Having the Learning Center at Family Matters is amazing because it gives our kids a space and opportunity to learn new things. I also like that they know how to talk to the kids even when the kids are being a little wild. Thank You to Jo and the staff from the Learning Center.” - McKenzy's Dad

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The lack of a high school diploma or the equivalent is the number one risk factor for young adult homelessness, increasing the likelihood of homelessness by 346%.[1] By helping unhoused and unstably housed students access high quality educational support and opportunities and by helping them attain their high school diploma, we are helping to end poverty, reducing educational and economic inequality, and increasing access to high quality educational support.
