Our Mission

Our mission is to foster evidence-based conservation of wild Asian elephants and their habitats, through research, education, policy and advocacy. We support long-term research in Sri Lanka, and like-minded initiatives throughout Asia. By engaging with wildlife managers, conservation practitioners, educators, and local communities, we involve diverse stakeholders in raising awareness and imagining solutions.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

15: Life on Land - We are focused on protecting Asian elephants and their habitats. Asian elephants are flagship species and ecosystem engineers. By protecting elephants and their habitats, we safeguard a host of other biodiversity on the landscape. 1: Zero Poverty - Rural farming communities are sometimes adversely impacted by elephants. By developing alternative cropping strategies that are compatible with elephants we strive to create a future in which both people and elephants can share the landscape and flourish together. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production - We aim to develop a unique brand of artisanal "elephant-friendly" botanicals, with complete supply chain transparency from producer to consumer. Sustainability for elephants, communities, and consumers will be at the core of our products. 10: Reduced inequalities - By helping farmers produce more economically viable products and converting elephants from liability to asset, we will improve livelihoods among the most economically disenfranchised in society. 13: Climate action - The elephant-friendly crops will also be climate-smart, consisting of ecologically-appropriate native species that require less fertilizer and water inputs compared to traditional food crops. They will be more adaptable and resilient in the face of climate change benefiting farmers. They will benefit wildlife by re-connecting and restoring fragmented habitats, promoting more carbon capture by the ecosystem.
