Judite Monteiro Guinean nationality, 44 years old, married, mother of 5 children. Between 2015 and 2019, she attended the Alfalit literacy classes and then primary education in Brá county, Autonomous Sector of Bissau (SAB). She always had a great desire to learn to read and write to have a profession and better opportunities. She points to the Alfalit Guinea-Bissau project as a blessing, which she had to fulfill her desire to continue learning and studying. She continued her studies, intending to have professional training and at the same time influencing other women, who, like her, could not read or write. To that end, she volunteered to be a literacy facilitator while studying at the public-school Colinas of BOE. She has a strong testimony: after literacy, there was a spiritual and social transformation in her life; she accepted Jesus and decided to help, sensitizing and encouraging many other women in the neighborhood to attend the Alfalit Adult Literacy Course.
I am Magret Dure Cosmas, married and a mother of five children; a refugee among the 800 thousand people who fled South Sudan due to the current political crises. "First and for most, I thank God for being alive after seeing the killings, rapping, and other worse inhumane things in my country. Secondly, I want to thank Alfalit for the knowledge I got back home before the crisis. It enabled me to understand the procedures and instructions required during registration when we came as refugees in Uganda. Most of the NGO's staff who received us in the settlement camp could not speak our local language; all communications were in English. I was able to understand the questions and also give correct answers in English during the registration process. My church nominated me as the women representative, a counselor handling domestic issues since I understood English and communicated with some of the host community members in our church, who speak English but not our local language. I know how my children perform in school by checking their books and whether they attend classes or not because Alfalit has a class attendance list and roll call daily. As a requirement, I attend PTAs meetings, a parents/teachers' association that joins together to know the children's progress. So, I became a PTA member. I can do all these with the knowledge I acquired in Alfalit; it has shaped my thinking capacity, and I'm confident that after book four, I can become someone with a profile."
