At Outta the Cage, we see shelter dogs as future family members waiting for their chance.
Our mission is to help often-overlooked pups — like seniors, those with medical needs, and larger breeds — find their forever homes.
We focus on quality over quantity because every dog's journey is important.
Through targeted networking, social media, vet visits, foster outreach, and subsidized adoption fees, we’re making our dent in the universe — one dog at a time.
Our transport program saves deserving dogs from overcrowded shelters in southern California and gets them to communities with available kennel space—and interested adopters!
BEFORE: Happy labradoodle Wiley was the victim of an unfortunate treatment error that left him with a badly infected wound that required amputation. We decided to fund hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat the wound. AFTER: After months of daily sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Wiley’s wound has healed, he has ALL FOUR LEGS, and he’s happy with his forever family!
BEFORE: River, an 8-week-old puppy, was dumped at the shelter with a deadly case of Parvo and listed for euthanasia. We rescued River and rushed him to the vet, who treated his Parvo and got him back to health. AFTER: River is now living a wonderful life in Washington with his mom and Husky siblings!
BEFORE: Abby had been in the shelter for 7 months before we rescued her. Being deaf, she’s a quiet and tentative dog. Potential adopters dismissed her as “special needs,” so sadly, she lingered in our rescue for 8 months. AFTER: But with the help of a talented trainer and the dedication of a foster-turned-adopter, Abby has found her forever home!
Outta the Cage believes in the power of Population Health. This takes healthcare beyond the traditional concept of medical care, considering a wide range of factors that influence health outcomes, including economic conditions, environmental variables, and the wellness of non-human animals. These can, in turn, improve the health and wellbeing of humans on a global scale. We believe that pet ownership is not only a satisfying and enriching experience, it can also be a determinant of health within human populations.
