Impact Stories
Peregrine Fund

The Peregrine Fund's mission is to conserve birds of prey worldwide. The Peregrine Fund is responding to 21st century conservation challenges with a strategic plan based on the conviction of our founders—“we will succeed by using science to inform decisions and by not accepting failure as an option”—so that by the year 2050 we will have helped create a vision of success in which bird of prey populations and their ecosystems thrive; we have enriched the lives of local communities where we work and improved their future; we have earned the reputation and serve as global experts on birds of prey and their conservation; and raptors are valued by all humans. Our strategy stands upon three transformative outcomes: conservation, engagement, and capacity. Conservation will be achieved by preventing raptor extinctions, protecting areas of high raptor conservation value, and addressing landscape-level threats impacting multiple species. Engagement will be reached by inspiring people to value raptors and take action, serving as a catalyst for change, and investing in tomorrow’s conservation leaders. Capacity outcomes are centered on The Peregrine Fund’s capacity to apply our core values, promise, and guiding principles to complex conservation challenges. Capacity will be built by assembling the infrastructure, facilities and people, and raising sufficient funds to execute the actions needed to reach measurable, time-bound goals on an iterative five-year planning cycle.

Wire Fox Terrier Rescue Midwest

To RESCUE and save abandoned, stray, neglected or relinquished Wire Fox Terriers from shelters, animal controls, puppy mills and breeders and to assist dogs who, because of extenuating circumstances, are unable to remain in their homes with their owners.   To provide any and all medical attention as required to make sure that each dog is in good health prior to adoption and to micro chip each Wire Fox Terrier. To provide sanctuary in a foster home where each receives a tremendous amount of love and care and treated as a member of the family.  To REHABILITATE and evaluate each foster dog for temperament and personality to ascertain the best suited home based on their needs, their prospective owner's situation and lifestyle.   To thoroughly screen adoption applicants before making placement decisions by requiring a completed Application, a Home Visit and Vet Reference Check and to interview and personally speak with each applicant to get to know them and their preferences which increases the end result of a successful permanent placement. To REHOME each foster dog by adopting them into their new suitable, permanent and loving Forever Homes. To increase public awareness of the overpopulation of homeless animals and to stress the importance of choosing to adopt and to provide information and links on where and how to become involved to eliminate the killing of adoptable animals. To exercise fiscal responsibility in handling our adoption fees, donations and other fundraising receipts to provide the maximum care for our rescued dogs and to ensure our financial viability into the future.

Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue

Marley’s Mutts is a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, trains and re-homes death row dogs from Kern County’s high-kill animal shelters. In addition , we utilize the rescued dogs to transform people’s lives. Through the power of the human-canine bond, we  empower dogs and people to live healthy, happy and productive lives. Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue is a registered 501c3 Non-Profit Organization that is concentrated on saving the lives of Kern County’s incarcerated canines. Kern County’s shelters are bursting at the seams and register some of the highest euthanasia rates in the country. We are committed to these shelter dogs simply because they have NO ONE and are closest to death. These dogs are at the shelter because they have been abandoned, lost, neglected, discarded or abused and many of them have no way out but RESCUE. These dogs are without family, love or representation and we aim to save as many as we can. We are their rescuers, their voice and their future. Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue is not taking public found strays or owner surrenders at this time. We do offer assistance on our website with training options, rehoming services, and networking resources. We hope to grow enough in size and capability to one day consider owner surrenders and strays as part of our rescue mission but at this time we feel that our services and skills will be best applied if we prioritize the rescue of dogs on death row.

Rosemaries Rescue Ranch

We founded Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch, Inc. to be a happy place to adopt your new best friend. A place you feel welcome and at ease, and able to focus on what's best for both your family and for the animal. We're a small, close-knit group of kind-hearted folks who put the welfare of the animals we rescue first, above all else. We'll be asking lots of questions, and listening closely to your needs to help you make an educated decision on next steps. We are a state approved 501(c)3 all-foster, all-volunteer, nonprofit organization. We appreciate your kind donations and will use your funding to make a difference. 100% of all proceeds of all fundraising goes towards the health, medical care, shots, spay/neuter, and well-being of the animals we rescue. Our volunteers are the heart of our organization. We promise you a fun and fulfilling experience in a safe and nurturing environment that includes a drama-free atmosphere. Here at Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch, Inc., we are committed to a single goal: Saving lives. Rescuing, rehabilitating broken souls, and re-homing relinquished pets with loving families. We are an all-volunteer, all-foster rescue organization and rely solely on fundraising and donations to save lives. Our mission is simple: Rescue, Rehab, Rehome.

Kitten Associates

1. We rescue and place in our foster care network, as many cats and kittens from High-Kill Shelters as possible, to spare them from being euthanized. This not only makes room for more animals at each shelter; it also reduces the stress on animal care workers who would have been charged to euthanize these cats. We also take cats from at-risk situations living outdoors. In addition, each foster cat or kitten in our program is available for adoption after a full wellness exam and any other vet care they require regardless of the cost or time involved. We carefully screen applicants to ensure these animals are never at risk for being in a shelter or on the streets again.2. While adoption and creating effective tools for increasing adoptions are a key part of our strategy, reduction of pet overpopulation is the other side of the coin. There simply are not enough homes for all the un-homed cats and dogs in the United States. In order to reduce euthanasia rates, we must act to curb overpopulation. Often, legislation is needed to enforce sustainable spay/neuter policies. We provide support for these policies and encourage legislative initiatives that help solve this worldwide problem: position papers, fund drives, polling, direct mail and email communications, case studies, etc.3. We educate the public about appropriate feline nutrition and support their concerns with our cat behavior counseling hotline. Our goal is to help keep cats in their home when cat behavior issues put their future at risk.

Piedmont Environmental Council

The Piedmont Environmental Council works to safeguard the landscape, communities and heritage of Virginia's Piedmont by involving citizens in related public policy and land conservation. PEC's service area encompasses nine counties of the Piedmont. Our work integrates four mutually interdependent goals and programs:   *Better Define the Piedmont- PEC is creating a sense of place in our communities through engaging activities and the identification and support of our unique assets and history.  * Protect What Can Be Protected: Land Conservation & Watershed Protection - We are protecting threatened land and natural and cultural resources as efficiently as possible through an aggressive and multi-tiered land conservation program.  *Respond to the Forces of Change: Land Use and Transportation- We consistently promote good planning to reduce threats to our region, address issues of local importance, and surmount individual pressures on our historic landscape.  *Direct Growth to the Right Places - We are helping visualize a better future by presenting positive solutions to the problems caused by poorly planned development. These concrete principles recognize that growth is inevitable, but that we can effectively manage the population and economic growth coming to this region and create healthy communities to live, work and play.  PEC also provides direct assistance to those working on parallel missions in neighboring counties. PEC is a founding member and fiscal sponsor for the Coalition for Smarter Growth, an organization extending a parallel mission in Washington DC. PEC also serves as fiscal sponsor for the Shenandoah Valley Network. Additionally, PEC coordinates with many partners across the Commonwealth to address regional issues that affect the Piedmont directly.

Impact Metrics and Stories
Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland Inc

The Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland strives to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome senior dogs. We will provide a permanent safe haven if the dog is not adopted. Many of the dogs that come through our doors were unable to be cared for by their owners, were abandoned or abused, or faced euthanasia. We opened in 2016 and have had over 700 dogs adopted out. We provide the medical care needed by each senior dog, including a full senior panel, and whatever care is needed up to and including surgery. Almost every senior dog needs a dental upon arrival. We spend, on average, $3,000 per dog. Our goal is to give them a second chance at life in a loving home. We want them to be as healthy as possible. We provide medication and most of the dogs are required to have prescription dog food to help with their medical conditions. We have a brick and mortar facility with kennels and a quarantine building. Our small but dedicated staff, as well as our wonderful volunteers spend time with the dogs and provide enrichment activities to keep them engaged. We also have a foster and hospice program so that the dogs can live in a home environment whenever possible. We give dogs with behavioral issues training to help them become more adoptable. We have also initiated a Seniors 2 Seniors Program to help senior citizens keep their pets by providing free dog and cat food. Thank you for considering the Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland.

Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue

Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue, Inc. (AZBTR) is an Arizona non-profit corporation dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of unwanted Boston Terriers, education of owners on responsible dog ownership, and education of the public on the Boston Terrier breed. AZBTR began life as the Rescue Committee of the Valley of the Sun Boston Terrier Club, a club founded in 1974 by a group of Boston Terrier lovers and breeders. As responsible breeders they knew that, in addition to improving and protecting the breed, it was also their obligation to help individual Bostons that needed new homes. Over the years, more and more Bostons needed help, and the Rescue Committee's operations grew to the point that it made sense to form a separate Boston Terrier rescue with the exclusive goal of helping dogs that needed new homes. Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue, Inc. was born as a free-standing non-profit corporation in 2006. Today AZBTR takes in adoptable Boston Terriers from many situations. We provide for their medical and behavioral needs, then place them in loving, permanent homes. All of our rescued dogs live with families in foster homes in Arizona. We operate statewide and occasionally take in dogs from nearby states. We do not run a shelter that you can visit. All of the rescue's operations are carried out by volunteers, most of whom have families and full-time jobs. We are very busy! The costs of the care we provide for Boston Terriers adds up. We charge an adoption fee, but it rarely covers all of the costs. We close the gap with fundraising activities throughout the year and donations from Boston Terrier lovers.

Barn Buddies Rescue

Barn Buddies Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating current owners of farm animals regarding placement (i.e. rescue), rather than release of such animals onto vacant land surrounding the Las Vegas Valley and/or our vicinity parks. We operate out of and are integrated with the farm, which is our parent organization. All proceeds from the farm go to the care and feeding of the animals, most of which are rescues. We will network with other groups to find appropriate homes – either temporary, until you get settled in new living quarters – or permanent, if you are no longer able to care for your animals. Our mission is to provide the best quality of life for abandoned farm animals that are being displaced by those losing their homes, family groups and/or jobs. We, at Barn Buddies Rescue, strongly encourage education regarding non-breeding of farm animals within the Las Vegas valley. Overpopulation of farm animals is overcrowding shelters, sanctuaries and temporary foster homes and we hope to be a part of the solution. Homes with a heart are needed for displaced farm animals. If you are able to help farm animals that are looking for either temporary or long term placement, please contact us. We encourage you to do your homework regarding the type of animal you may be able to consider for foster or permanent placement. Be very sure of your commitment to ensure the animal will not have to go through displacement in the future. A home check will be required prior to foster or adoption. Volunteers are always needed as well as vehicles and trailers to pick up, transport and drop off larger animals. If you are able to provide physical help, supplies, blankets, crates, equine equipment or anything that may help us help the animals, please contact us.

PAWS Shelter of Central Texas

PAWS Shelter of Central Texas (PAWS) was founded in Kyle, Texas in 1986 as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization providing care and love to homeless, abandoned, and abused animals in Central Texas. We are a no-kill shelter that believes in second chances! At PAWS, companion animals are given medical attention, care, and love for however long it takes for us to find them a loving home. PAWS is relentless in our effort to save lives and change lives. Our efforts in that regard include: - Holding offsite adoptions to get the animals out into the community. - Fully vaccinating and microchipping our animals so that they can begin their long, happy lives with their new owners, “fully equipped!”. - Visiting local community groups and schools to educate our community on responsible pet ownership. - Making sure that every animal in our care gets the medical attention it needs. - Implementing a Behavior Testing Program which temperament tests all those in our care before they are adopted into the community, allowing for better placement of pets into a new home environment that is best for all. - Spaying or neutering all our animals to further our commitment to be part of the solution in our communities’ pet overpopulation problem. PAWS is more than a “shelter!” While the challenges are great, with the help of your donations and grants, we make a difference in how our four legged friends are treated and, ultimately, make the world a more humane place for all. PAWS embraces the animals we care for today and plans for those we will care for in the future. We are grateful to all those who help and are part of the solution as we move forward with our mission. We envision a time when our Central Texas Community celebrates the human-animal bond, pet overpopulation is solved, permanent homes for all adoptable animals are ensured, and all animal suffering ends. Please visit us and adopt, foster, donate or volunteer if you can!

Operation Paws for Homes

Their Mission: Operation Paws for Homes rescues dogs of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters reducing the numbers being euthanized. Most of our dogs come from rural shelters in South and North Carolina, as well as Virginia. We also partner with local shelters as needed. Our organization provides pet adoption services to families located in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania and neighboring states. OPH does not operate a shelter or have a physical location. We rely on foster families who open their homes to give love and attention to each dog before finding a forever home. Through the foster care program, we are able to learn about each dog and their needs and we provide their potential and future adopters with this information. We believe in responsible adoptions and strive to work with each adopter to find a good match for their home and lifestyle. We are fortunate to have over 200 active volunteers who help OPH find forever homes for over 1,000 dogs a year, to carry out education and outreach events throughout the DMW, and conduct donation drives for our partner shelters in the south. Operation Paws for Homes, a 501(c)(3) organization, is 100% donor funded. We receive no funding from federal, state, or county governments. As a result, we rely on the generous donations from our supporters and the adoption fees for each dog in order to save the dogs in need that join our rescue organization. Our goal is to fulfill the dreams of dogs who find themselves abandoned in shelters. Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of arriving at the shelter. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters by no fault of their own. We work hard to unite them with forever families who will give them the life and love they deserve. Without the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors, and volunteers, we would be unable to fulfill this dream.
