TUPELO LEE HUMANE SOCIETY

The Tupelo Lee Humane Society was founded in 1979 in an effort to provide lifesaving adoption services for animals in the city shelter. Over 40 years later, TLHS is still providing adoption options to our community and has expanded our lifesaving programs in an effort to make a larger impact on animal welfare in Lee County and surrounding areas. The Tupelo Lee Humane Society’s mission is to promote humane treatment, prevent cruelty, provide education, and end pet overpopulation. TLHS moved into our new facility located on Cliff Gookin Blvd in October of 2018. Our new facility was designed to fit our operational needs so that we could continue to develop our programs and save even more lives. With animal welfare changing exponentially in our country, the new facility gave us the opportunity to adapt our programs with our ever changing culture. The Tupelo Lee Humane Society currently operates with several lifesaving programs that include community spay and neuter, local adoptions, transport of animals to northern rescue partners, foster promotion, and volunteer/community service availability. Program advancement and expansion allows our community to engage with our organization in more depth and helps to promote our vision and goals.

Sarges Animal Rescue Foundation Inc

Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation’s creation was inspired by a dog at Haywood County Animal Shelter. Sarge was a dog who had been remanded over to the Haywood County Animal Shelter in 2005 by his owner. A breed rescue volunteer identified him as a young, healthy, purebred German Shepherd Dog and marked him for rescue. Despite best efforts, Sarge was euthanized just one hour before rescue transport arrived. A group of volunteers used this event as a catalyst for change, and formed an organization with the mission of preventing the euthanasia of adoptable dogs and cats in the county shelter. In the years since, the county shelter has achieved a “no-kill” status, and it is Sarge’s intention to help the shelter maintain that success.
