The Smithsonian's mission is "the increase and diffusion of knowledge." It was established in 1846 with funds bequeathed to the United States by James Smithson. The Institution is as an independent trust instrumentality of the United States and holds more than 137 million artifacts and specimens in its collections. It is a center for scientific research and scholarship in the arts, history, and culture.

The Museum of the City of New York, located in East Harlem on Fifth Avenue?s Museum Mile, was founded in 1923 to serve the people of New York and visitors from around the world through exhibitions, collections, publications, and school and public programs. The Museum is the official repository of the city?s history, celebrating New York?s heritage of diversity, tolerance, opportunity, and perpetual transformation by presenting exhibitions and programs that offer important and intriguing perspectives on what gives New York its singular character.

Our mission is to broaden and enhance the educational opportunities for children ages 10 and under and to enhance their understanding of the world. Hiller Aviation Museum uses aviation as a gateway for people to embrace adventure and innovation while using tools of science to explore how the physical world works and how the dream of flight is made into reality.Through educational exhibits and immersive inquiry-based programs that investigate aviation, science, technology, and engineering subjects, Hiller Aviation Museum delivers learning experiences to a wide audience of over 100,000 people annually, including adults and children, within the San Francisco Bay Area.

The National September 11 Memorial and Museum will honor the thousands of lives lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993; the endurance of those who survived; the courage of those who risked their lives to save others; and the compassion of all who supported us in our darkest hours. Heart & Soul heals the human spirit by bringing music and performing arts to isolated people. We provide free performances for isolated members of our community who find it difficult if not impossible to attend public concerts. Our performances enrich the soul and promote wellness through the healing power of music and the performing arts. In carrying out this mission we seek to make our world less lonely through music. Heart & Soul serves both the Wasatch Front and Wasatch Back with over 1300 shows annually.

The Center for Book Arts promotes active explorations of both contemporary and traditional artistic practices related to the book as an art object. The Center seeks to facilitate communication between the book arts community and the larger spheres of contemporary visual and literary arts, while being a model organization locally, nationally, and internationally within the field. We achieve this through exhibitions, classes, public programming, literary presentations, opportunities for artists and writers, publications, and collecting. Founded in 1974 and still located in Manhattan, it was the first not-for-profit organization of its kind in the nation, and has since become a model for others around the world.
