Black Diamond Search And Rescue Council is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides specially trained professionals to locate and assist lost or missing people in wilderness, rural, or disaster environments. Black Diamond, which is based out of the Southwest Virginia town of Marion, is committed to service above self and emphasizes accredited training, public-safety education and inter-agency cooperation at no-cost to the requesting agency or the missing or lost person. The all-volunteer organization trains and deploys ground teams, trackers, search management personnel, technical teams, equine-mounted teams, K9 wilderness live-find teams and K9 cadaver teams. Those resources are deployed throughout Virginia and in adjacent states when requested for individuals in need or in the aftermath of man-made or natural disasters. The organization was founded in 2002 and is a Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) state resource.
