Mission and Vision:  Chess in the Schools is a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to improving academic performance and building self-esteem among inner-city public school children. Chess is a powerful teaching tool that can break through barriers to help the most disadvantaged students learn skills that translate into academic and lifelong success. Over the past two decades, we have seen how an effective chess education curriculum can change lives. But, learning chess is just the first stebut no one will dispute that the numbers are unsatisfactory. This appallingly low statistic is even lower for minority students and those who live in poverty. Many education experts agree that increasing the high school graduation rate starts with early intervention. Chess in the Schools believes that elementary school students need to develop basic analytical skills that lead to academic success throughout their school career. To develop these skills, Chess in the Schools teaches the complex game of chess to thousands of New York City public school children every year.

The mission of The Campus Kitchens Project is to use service as a tool to: Strengthen Bodies by using existing resources to meet hunger and nutritional needs in our communities; Empower Minds by providing leadership and service learning opportunities to college students, and educational benefits to adults, seniors, children, and families in need; and Build Communities by fostering a new generation of community-minded adults through resourceful and mutually beneficial partnerships among students, social service agencies, businesses and universities.

The Philips Brooks School Community inspires students to love learning, to develop a spiritual nature, to commuicate effectively, to be kind to others and to respect the uniqueness of each person. 

The Virginia Avenue Project empowers kids to think creatively, courageously and critically about life goals and choices by providing free, Writing and Performing Arts programming, in conjunction with long-term mentoring, throughout their growing years.

The mission of the Edible Schoolyard Project is to build andshare an edible education curriculum for kindergarten through high school. Ourvision is for gardens and kitchens to become interactive classrooms foracademic subjects, and for every student to have a free, nutritious, organiclunch. If this program is integrated into schools, the curriculum couldtransform the health and values of every child in America.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the nation’s leading provider of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. As a nonprofit organization, PLTW’s mission is simple: prepare students for the global economy. To compete globally, the future U.S. workforce will require stronger skills in the STEM disciplines. The GOD'S CHILD Project's mission is "to break the bitter chains of poverty through education, housing and healthcare." While GOD'S CHILD is rooted in education and health-care, we aim to support the communities we serve at every level of development. Through our wide range of programs, we help children and families living in extreme poverty to meet their basic needs and find a restored sense of hope, self-worth and human dignity. Religious affiliation is not a requirement for any program services.

The Maryland Book Bank is a nonprofit organization committed to cultivating literacy in children from under-resourced neighborhoods.

Since 1979, the mission of the Sacramento Blues Society (SBS) is to preserve and promote the indigenous American Music known as the Blues. SBS offers the community a varied program of the blues and conducts community outreach and educational programs centered on the Blues. SBS keeps the Blues tradition alive in Sacramento by supporting and promoting the local blues music scene, bringing nationally and internationally renown performers to the region and providing musical education exposure to the area's youth through our Blues in the School (BITS).
