Foundation For Students Rising Above

Students Rising Above invests in low-income, first generation college students who have demonstrated a deep commitment to education and strength of character in overcoming tremendous odds of poverty, homelessness, and neglect. We help each student to realize his or her potential by guiding and supporting them through college graduation, and into the workforce. Our graduates are breaking the cycle of poverty within their own families, serving their communities, providing a new generation of employees and leaders from diverse backgrounds, and accelerating positive change.

Kuyper College

Kuyper College (Formerly Reformed Bible College) grew out of the desire of a few members of the Christian Reformed Church to provide leaders to the church and community who have strong theological foundations and solid educations. The first class was held in the winter of 1940. Kuyper provides an education that assists students in their spiritual development, equips them to think and act as world-class Christians, and guides their preparation for careers in all vocations. Kuyper is committed to diversity of all kinds. Without diversity, our broad knowledge of God is limited.

University Of Tampa

The University of Tampa is a comprehensive, independent university that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners. Berea College

Berea College is a not-for-profit institution providing liberal arts education to students with limited family financial resources primarily from the Southern Appalachian Mountain region.  All Students are provided a full tuition scholarship and, accordingly, the College is dependent on gifts and donations to help provide a low cost but high quality eductation.  The College has one campus located in Berea, Kentucky with an enrollment of approximately 1,600 students and approximately 450 non-student employees.  Founded in 1855, Berea College was the first college in the South to educate blacks and whites, women and men, together.

Bowdoin College

It is the mission of the College to engage students of uncommon promise in an intense full-time education of their minds, exploration of their creative faculties and development of their social and leadership abilities, in a four-year course of study and residence that concludes with a baccalaureate degree in the liberal arts. Two guiding ideas suffuse Bowdoin's mission. The first, from the College of the 18th and 19th centuries, defines education in terms of a social vision. "Literary institutions are founded and endowed for the common good, and not for the private advantage of those who resort to them. . . but that their mental powers may be cultivated and improved for the benefit of society" (President Joseph McKeen's inaugural address, 1802); "To lose yourself in generous enthusiasms and cooperate with others for common ends: this is the offer of the College" (President William DeWitt Hyde, 1903). The second idea stresses the formation of a complete individual for a world in flux: there is an intrinsic value in a liberal arts education of breadth and depth, beyond the acquisition of specific knowledge, that will enable a thinking person, "to be at home in all lands and all ages" (President Hyde). At the root of this mission is selection. First, and regardless of their wealth, Bowdoin selects men and women of varied gifts, diverse social, geographic and racial backgrounds, and exceptional qualities of mind and character. Developed in association with one another, these gifts will enable them to become leaders in many fields of endeavor. Second, it recruits faculty members of high intellectual ability and scholarly accomplishment who have a passion for education both of undergraduates and of themselves, as life-long creators and pursuers of knowledge.

Saint Elizabeth University

Traditionally a college for women, and one of the first colleges to confer a college degree to women, SEU was founded by the Sisters of Charity in 1899, with a mission to be a community of learning in the Catholic liberal arts for students of diverse ages, backgrounds, and cultures. SEU will be nationally recognized for its academic excellence and commitment to developing leadership in our underserved student body. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. Rockefeller University

 The Rockefeller University was founded in 1901 by John D. Rockefeller Sr. as The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. The first institution in the United States devoted solely to using biomedical research to understand the underlying causes of disease, Rockefeller is today one of the foremost biomedical research centers in the world, and its scientists have made numerous seminal contributions to biology and medicine. Over the years, 24 scientists associated with the university have received Nobel Prizes and 21 have earned the Albert Lasker Medical Research Award. Fourteen Rockefeller scientists have received the Gairdner Foundation International Award and 14 have been given the National Medal of Science, the nation's highest scientific honor.
