Western Carolina University is a public regional institution of higher education whose mission is to create learning opportunities that incorporate teaching, research, service, and engagement through on-campus, off-campus, on-line and international experiences. Build for Devon was established in 2015 after Southern University football player Devon Gales was injured in an NCAA game in Athens, Ga. This house construction fund raises money to go towards building expenses for a handicap accessible, family home in Jefferson, Ga.

Its mission seeks to: generate funds and endowments for scholarships to Grayson College students; encourage gifts for facilities and equipment; develop private funding sources for new programmatic ventures; and communicate the evolving needs of the College to constituencies to facilitate collaborative and mutually supportive relationships.
