Cornerstone Schools

Mission-Our broad and beloved community of friends will make possible an excellent education for children so as to prepare them for life and leadership. On this journey we will seek to follow Jesus as a sure path to a fulfilling life and servant leadership. Website - www.CornerstoneSchools.org -In its 20th year, Cornerstone is renowned in Metro Detroit for its success in graduating well-prepared, high achieving youth. 95% of its students graduate from high school in a city with the lowest rates in the country, and 91% of its high school graduates will pursue higher learning opportunities. Cornerstone's school-wide average performance rate is 20% above the national average. July 2009, Cornerstone expanded its educational model to the public school sector with the acquisition of two public school charters, Washington-Parks Academy and Lincoln-King Academy. August 2010, they will open the Leadership and Business High School. Over 1400 children are currently enrolled at our schools.

Harbor City School

Harbor City School (HCS) is a non-profit, independent preschool located in the heart of East Boston. Created by a small group of dedicated local moms in 2010, HCS aims to provide a year round nurturing and stimulating environment for up to twenty children aged 2 years 9 months to 6 years old. While traditional preschools are only half day, HCS also offers a full day option in order to suit the needs of fulltime working families in our community. For families who wish to actively participate in their child’s preschool experience, we are also a cooperative school, with co-op responsibilities for families both in and out of the classroom. Families have the option to not participate in the classroom co-op portion of our school, but instead pay a monthly non-participation fee. HCS does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, cultural heritage, national origin, religion, political beliefs, sexual orientation, family structure or toilet training status.

Valley of the Sun Waldorf Education Association

Inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s Waldorf education system, the mission of Desert Marigold School is to provide an educational context that emphasizes not only intellectual achievement, but also the imaginative, artistic, and moral growth of its students. By addressing their heads, hands and hearts, the school will encourage students to be life-long learners and independent thinkers as well as self motivated, self-disciplined, creative, adaptable and responsible individuals. We seek to establish and maintain a school that provides an individualized, nurturing approach to educating its students, preparing them not only for higher education, but for the rest of their lives. We will require and use an active partnership of teachers, families and the community, as well as a continued affiliation with the world-wide Waldorf movement to achieve the following goals: 1. To ensure each child’s excellence in core academic skills by providing a curriculum enlivened with the arts of painting, music, drama, movement, singing, sculpture and hand work. 2. To educate according to age and development, so that learning and growth are united. 3. To present the curriculum in multiple and integrated ways, so students have many different opportunities to learn concepts, as well as see the relationship to the larger whole. 4. To nourish the spirit of curiosity so that students continue to learn long after the end of formal training. 5. Morning Star Center For Social Progress

The mission of the Morning Star Center (MSCAFRICA) is to bring hope and development to the Heart of Africa. MSCAFRICA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit institution devoted expressly to providing social improvement services to underprivileged and impoverished communities. It is our mission to begin with those in the most need. Social Progress requires intervention in several different areas of life, therefore the Morning Star Center will provide many different yet related services to invigorate and inspire social progress. A summary of the different services is provided below. Education: Social progress depends heavily on the development of knowledge and intelligence.  Morning Star Center will provide education through classroom training for all levels of learners: children, adolescents, and adults. A primary goal of the Center's education services is to educate the impoverished children of Africa who, without the Center's services, would be left unable to read, write, or advance in society. The education at the Center will be theoretically based yet practically oriented integrating the latest in business and technology. Healthcare: Social Progress is impossible when a population is faced with debilitating and devastating diseases. A large degree of the health care problem in Africa emanates from simple deficiencies. Morning Star Center will provide basic vaccinations, medications, and information to prevent and treat widespread yet curable diseases. Technology Center: Social Progress is heavily reliant on technology. Morning Star Center will provide not only technical education to students but also serve as a distribution and information center for technological advancement with the community. Local businesses and families will be encouraged to use a technology provided by Morning Star Center as well as obtain lessons about improving production and lifestyle improvement through technology. MSCAFRICA strives to serve African communities by providing education, healthcare, technological, and other social services to everybody, especially the poor. All people are at birth equal and when provided the minimal foundations of education, healthcare, technology, and other services all people are capable of improving their quality of life. It is the basic mission of Morning Star Center for Social Progress to provide that foundation to needy communities in Africa.

Marymount High School

Marymount, Los Angeles was founded at the request of the Most Reverend John Cantwell, the first Archbishop of Los Angeles. Directed by Mother Joseph Butler, the founder and visionary of Marymount Schools in the United States, five pioneering sisters of the RSHM opened the doors of Marymount, Los Angeles to twelve students on September 23, 1923. The original campus was on 28th Street, adjacent to the University of Southern California. As enrollment grew, the site proved inadequate and eight years later, Marymount moved to its present location on Sunset Boulevard, across the street from the University of California, Los Angeles. The new six-and-a-half acre campus had much to commend it: beautiful yet functional Spanish Mission style buildings with ample space for athletic and recreational facilities all set in lovely surroundings. Throughout the years, several new buildings were added, all in keeping with the original architecture of the school. In 1982, Marymount was declared a California heritage cultural monument because of its outstanding architecture in the Spanish Colonial Revival mode and its history as a cultural center for learning. With sister schools in New York, Europe and South America, Marymount gratefully acknowledges the Religious who had the vision and strength to establish an international network of schools committed to service and to women’s education. Throughout its history, Marymount has remained dedicated to the goal of providing an education that fosters the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional and social maturity of the whole person. Each student is encouraged to find her own voice and to challenge herself through academics and co-curricular programs coupled with a deep commitment to serving others.

DreamYard Drama Project

DreamYard is committed to helping transform Bronx schools and communities through the power of innovative, project based arts education. Our schools and students are based in the nation's poorest urban county, with one-third of the Bronx's residents living below the poverty line. In response, DreamYard programs are designed to challenge the cyclical systems of inequality and poverty by empowering youth to discover and develop their best possible selves and to locate meaningful paths and ways to engage with their fellow students, schools, families, and communities. As the largest arts education provider in the Bronx, DreamYard critically impacts the social and intellectual growth of thousands of Bronx youth through safe, positive and creatively challenging programs. DreamYard's team of professional artists partner with classroom teachers and community educators to help students learn how to express, write and perform their own stories. Through year-long programs offered during the school day, after school, on weekends and during the summer, DreamYard supports youth development, enhances life-long learning skills, and promotes creative thinking and expression. DreamYard artists spark an interest in education that often lies latent in our youth. The organization understands that it is imperative to direct a young person's creativity toward positive goals as we strive to develop well-rounded and engaged citizens. Through DreamYard, young people believe that they can have an impact and change their communities and society as a whole. Its projects are catalysts that help teachers and communities propel students and their families into a life-long learning process.

Dolphin Foundation - Dana Hills High School

One hundred percent of the money we earn is used to help pay for equipment, referees, uniforms, bus transportation, and program development. New Orleans Center For Creative Arts Institute (NOCCA)

The NOCCA Foundation champions the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. We build philanthropic, lasting partnerships. We invest in young artists, their mentors and the community through programs that encourage educational and cultural innovation. HOW WE SUPPORT NOCCA: The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts was founded in 1973 and opened its doors to students in 1974. Today, NOCCA is Louisiana’s arts conservatory for high school students, offering intensive instruction in Classical Music, Creative Writing, Culinary Arts, Dance, Drama, Jazz, Media Arts, Musical Theatre, Theatre Design, Vocal Music, Visual Arts, and academics. Students come from across Louisiana, attending via full-day, afternoon, and after-school sessions. Admission to NOCCA is by audition, and there is no tuition. The NOCCA Foundation (formerly The NOCCA Institute) is NOCCA’s nonprofit partner, providing supplemental funding for NOCCA and advocacy for its world-class program. Some of the Foundation’s more notable endeavors include: a Student Success Program that pays for students’ classroom supplies, college application fees, required private music lessons, fees associated with important summer training programs across the country, as well as emergency food support; an Artists-in-Residence Program that brings more than 100 professional visiting artists into NOCCA’s classrooms each year; the capital campaign for NOCCA’s current home and expansion projects like Press Street Gardens; a wide array of arts classes for adults; and concert, gallery, and literary events for the community. The Foundation also oversees rentals of the NOCCA campus, making it available to arts organizations, individuals, corporations, and other groups.
