The Virginia Symphony Orchestra is a leading cultural asset that is a source of regional pride, connecting everyone in Hampton Roads through the transformative power of exceptional musical performances and educational activities. In five years, the VSO and its musicians will be nationally recognized for having the artistic and financial resources to provide civic value to our diverse community well beyond residents who attend concerts. Our mission is to provide educational services to people who are in need in Shelby County. Re-entry reporting is a separate component that we offer to inmates at the Shelby County Government: Divisions of Corrections before exiting the compound. Our goal is to empower and serve the greater good in Shelby County but are not limited to the needs of our city. We are investing in the citizens of Shelby County, City of Memphis and our next generation of youth and adult leaders. Our focus is helping families, the homeless, inmates incarcerated, and newly exiting offender population in need. We provide support, transitional services, staffing, operations, and management for Cooling/Warming Centers, Emergency aid and short term shelter options. Efforts are successful with community partners, sponsors, grants, fundraising, donations, food drives, coat drives, clothing, gently used furniture and so forth. We promote self-sufficiency, health & wellness, educational and advocacy programs. LHTF operates under four key values: Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence.

Founded in 2001, Contra Costa Jewish Day School (CCJDS) is an outstanding Kindergarten through 8th grade independent school serving families from all backgrounds. We believe in the whole child approach to learning -- fostering the intellectual, physical and spiritual growth of our students. We are committed to providing our students with extraordinary teachers, small classes, and a vibrant, supportive environment where they develop into a critical thinkers and effective communicators -- and love school! Our students practice the core Jewish values of kindness, community service, justice and respect for others and we integrate community service into the life of our school family in keeping with our Jewish commitment to making the world a better place (tikkun olam). Our strong academic program supports asking questions, connecting ideas and solving problems across all subjects.

The mission of Lindsay Wildlife Experience is to connect people with wildlife to inspire responsibility and respect for the world we share. The museum was founded in 1955 by Alexander Lindsay, a local businessman, to teach children about natural sciences, particularly wildlife and their habitats. Over the years, the museum has developed a permanent collection of live, non-releasable native California wildlife and related artifacts. Lindsay is also a leader in the field of wildlife rehabilitation with a full veterinary staff and more than 500 volunteers. It is the first, and frequently only, resource for those who encounter injured, ill, or orphaned wildlife of all species, native mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles . During the recent drought years, Lindsay has treated record number of wild animals (more than 5,700 in the first 10 months of 2015). Begun in 1970, this formal wildlife rehabilitation program was the first of its kind in the United States.

Sinai Temple is dedicated to providing a welcoming and caring community for its members, devoted to Jewish learning and support for Israel and the Jewish people, and committed to improving ourselves and the world through a growing relationship with God from generation to generation. Sinai Akiba Academy Sinai Akiba Academy, a Solomon Schechter Conservative Jewish day school established in 1968, draws on the rich traditions of our Jewish heritage while offering a powerful academic environment—creating an exceptional educational and spiritual journey for your child. Facing History and Ourselves uses lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate. At Facing History and Ourselves, we believe the bigotry and hate that we witness today are the legacy of brutal injustices of the past. Facing our collective history and how it informs our attitudes and behaviors allows us to choose a world of equity and justice. Facing History’s resources address racism, antisemitism, and prejudice at pivotal moments in history; we help students connect choices made in the past to those they will confront in their own lives. Through our partnership with educators around the world, Facing History and Ourselves reaches millions of students in thousands of classrooms every year. Independent research studies show that experience in a Facing History classroom motivates students to become upstanders in their communities, whether by challenging negative stereotypes at the dinner table, standing up to a bully in their neighborhood, or registering to vote when they are eligible. Together we are creating the next generation of leaders who will build a world based on knowledge and compassion, the foundation for more democratic, equitable, and just societies.

Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, with a mission to surround students with a community of support empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. For more than 30 years, CIS has connected needed community resources with schools. By bringing caring adults and a wide variety of services into schools to address children’s unmet needs, CIS provides a linkbetween educators and the community. The results of CIS’s model are that teachers are free to teach and students, many at risk of dropping out, have the opportunity to focus on learning. To help students stay in school, we identify and bring together in one place – public schools – all the resources and services available in the community that kids need to be successful. These services vary from one community to the next and from state to state and address specific needs such as academic support, mentoring, health care, family strengthening, career development, summer and after-school programs, alternative education models, and service learning. Today, the CIS network is comprised of nearly 5,000 passionate professionals working in close to 200 local affiliate nonprofits in 27 states and the District of Columbia, as well as 53,000 community volunteers, serving 1.2 million young people in more than 2,400 schools around the nation.

Redwood Cooperative School was established in 2014 with the goal of fostering children’s creativity and curiosity through progressive, project-based learning. Through experiential education, we aim to create a learning environment that nurtures the whole child. Redwood School equally promotes all disciplines of education from Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Nature, Music, Visual Art and Play. Our cooperative model allows for collaboration between classroom teachers, program specialists and parents. This pooling of time, talents and resources promotes a deep level of learning and allows for our children to be immersed in their educational experience, fostering their innate thirst for knowledge. Our programs promote the arts and emphasize the strong connection to nature and the outdoors while maintaining high standards in core content areas such as Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies. At Redwood, blended grade classrooms encourage the development of social and emotional intelligence, providing the students opportunities to interact through group work and free play. Our student to instructor ratio is low (approximately 6 to 1) as we have one Head teacher in the classroom, an assistant teacher and a parent each day. We celebrate diversity by allowing children to be themselves and providing a learning experience that meets each student’s individual needs. Redwood strives to provide all this at a tuition rate that is affordable to most families. Financial aid is available.

The mission of the Morning Star Center (MSCAFRICA) is to bring hope and development to the Heart of Africa. MSCAFRICA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit institution devoted expressly to providing social improvement services to underprivileged and impoverished communities. It is our mission to begin with those in the most need. Social Progress requires intervention in several different areas of life, therefore the Morning Star Center will provide many different yet related services to invigorate and inspire social progress. A summary of the different services is provided below. Education: Social progress depends heavily on the development of knowledge and intelligence.  Morning Star Center will provide education through classroom training for all levels of learners: children, adolescents, and adults. A primary goal of the Center's education services is to educate the impoverished children of Africa who, without the Center's services, would be left unable to read, write, or advance in society. The education at the Center will be theoretically based yet practically oriented integrating the latest in business and technology. Healthcare: Social Progress is impossible when a population is faced with debilitating and devastating diseases. A large degree of the health care problem in Africa emanates from simple deficiencies. Morning Star Center will provide basic vaccinations, medications, and information to prevent and treat widespread yet curable diseases. Technology Center: Social Progress is heavily reliant on technology. Morning Star Center will provide not only technical education to students but also serve as a distribution and information center for technological advancement with the community. Local businesses and families will be encouraged to use a technology provided by Morning Star Center as well as obtain lessons about improving production and lifestyle improvement through technology. MSCAFRICA strives to serve African communities by providing education, healthcare, technological, and other social services to everybody, especially the poor. All people are at birth equal and when provided the minimal foundations of education, healthcare, technology, and other services all people are capable of improving their quality of life. It is the basic mission of Morning Star Center for Social Progress to provide that foundation to needy communities in Africa.

Little Kids Rock transforms lives by restoring, expanding, and innovating music education in our schools! Little Kids Rock began in 1996 as an informal effort by ESL teacher David Wish to give his San Francisco Bay Area second grade students a music enrichment program because the school did not have funding for one. What began as one teacher’s effort to bring music education to a few dozen public school children has catapulted into a national nonprofit that serves hundreds of thousands of young people year after year. Little Kids Rock was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2002, and has since expanded with programs in 48 states. We accomplished this by: • Championing an innovative modern band music education that connects learning to the music kids already know and love—styles including rock, pop, hip-hop, country, EDM, reggae, and other contemporary styles as they emerge—performed on guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, drums, vocals, and technology • Recruiting, training, and equipping public school teachers to start music programs utilizing our methods and materials • Partnering with public school districts to provide a quality music education to as many young people as possible—especially those in underserved communities Today, Little Kids Rock is the largest nonprofit provider of musical instruments, program curriculum, and teacher training in the country. Having trained more than 5,000 teachers and served more than 1,000,000 students in 500 public school districts to date, Little Kids Rock has emerged as a national thought leader in the field of music education to become a valued service provider to the U.S. public school system.
