Die Arche Christliches Kinder- und Jugendwerk e.V.

"Making children strong for life!" This slogan neatly sums up how "Die Arche" reaches out to support socially disadvantaged children and young people at support centres across Germany. Every day, the children we support enjoy a free lunch, get help with their homework and have a chance to participate in meaningful after-school activities. We also offer their parents assistance and advice as a way of helping entire families to get to grips with their day-to-day lives. At "Die Arche", we give children the space they need to discover their potential. We nurture their talent, give them opportunities, and encourage and facilitate educational achievement.

Biosphere Expeditions

Biosphere Expeditions is an award-winning not-for-profit conservation organisation, and a member of IUCN and the UN's Environment Programme. For us successful conservation is the collective effort of individuals. We invite everyone to join us on our wildlife and wilderness projects all over the world. Whether young or old, become a citizen scientist for one or two weeks, or more. The foundation of our work is science and local need. We focus on sustainable conservation projects that target clearly defined, critical issues that humankind has the power to change. You, our international volunteers, work hand-in-hand with local biologists and communities to drive positive outcomes for biodiversity - the creation of a protected area for snow leopards in the Altai is just one recent example. Biosphere Expeditions is a member of the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) and of the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) Governing Council & Global Ministerial Environment Forum. Achievements include the implementation of our conservation recommendations and species protection plans by numerous national and regional governments and NGOs, the creation of protected areas on four continents, scientific and lay publications, as well as capacity-building, training and education all over the world.

PEPY Empowering Youth

"Connecting Cambodian Youth to the skills, opportunities, and inspirations needed to reach their potential." This is the mission of PEPY Empowering Youth, a local non-profit (NGO) focused on educating and empowering youth in underserved and remote communities outside of Siem Reap city. With their team's intimate understanding of barriers affecting students' ability to move onto higher education (many team members are former beneficiaries of PEPY's projects), PEPY staff often become student's first role models while building their capacity to achieve their dreams through academic, technical, and professional training- enabling them to make changes they wish to see in their communities. Through PEPY, students' rates of moving onto higher education and obtaining skilled employment are increasing. PEPY's approach to education development is different because they focus on high school and higher education students, an age group often overlooked, while targeting remote areas where higher education is uncommon and often financially impossible. PEPY's programs are comprehensive and go beyond typical scholarship programs, guaranteeing that students graduate and all of them find jobs while they are still in school.

Jobortunity

Jobortunity exists to transform the lives of youth in Tanzania by making them employable. We offer youth from vulnerable backgrounds, that otherwise wouldn't have access to education due to systemic barriers, an opportunity to change their trajectory. The impact Jobortunity has on youth has far reaching implications for the community and the nation - it helps to develop the economy, break the cycle of generational poverty, and create a talent pipeline for employers. Tanzania faces a massive youth unemployment problem. According to the statistics, only 2 out of 100 youth in Tanzania attain employment after schooling (Source: Prime Minister's Office - Jobs, Youth, Employment and people with disabilities, Mwananchi Data, 2019). However, employers report that they struggle to find qualified employees and their retention rate is very low. When we began to study this situation in 2008, this equation didn't add up. We identified that the root of the problem is a skills gap i.e. youth lack the knowledge, skills and especially the attitude for employment - youth in general are untrained in the 21st century skills required to obtain and retain a job in the modern workplace. Therefore, Jobortunity has developed an approach to fill this skills gap and teach 21st century skills to youth from vulnerable and challenging backgrounds. Our 3H (Head, Hands & Heart) and Hi5 approaches instill the skills needed for youth to successfully engage with the constantly changing professional world. For the past 11 years, Jobortunity youth have become self-reliant, are employable, and retain jobs. More than on average 75% of our graduates obtain a decent job and remain employed. Moreover, the feedback from employers is positive and they continue to request and hire our graduates. Communities have also reaped far-reaching benefits. Every person with a job supports at least 3 to 5 family members, and many of our graduates have been able to return home to help build infrastructure to benefit the community at large. Graduates feel professionally fulfilled in their working environment and live balance and meaningful lives. Our mission is that disadvantaged youth aged 18 to 25 secure decent employment in companies, feel professionally fulfilled in their working environment and live balanced and meaningful lives. In addition, we contribute to overcome the skills gap between youth (with and without formal education) and companies' employability needs. We provide companies with professional staff to strengthen the service industry in Tanzania. Our wider vision is that these young people can provide a dignified livelihood for themselves, they support their families and impact their communities in a positive and sustainable manner.

Karuna-Shechen

With the goal of helping under-served communities in India, Nepal, and Tibet receive the vital services they need, Karuna-Shechen was founded in 2000 by Matthieu Ricard (www.matthieuricard.org), renown TED speaker, author, and humanitarian. We strive to reduce inequalities and work toward a fairer and more compassionate world. We trust that communities can be lifted out of poverty, that change is possible, and that the well-being of every individual, regardless of race, gender, class, or caste, is essential. We believe that building on local strengths and knowledge is the most efficient way to respond to the specific needs and aspirations of our beneficiaries. Rooted in the ideal of "compassion in action", we serve others with joy and determination by cultivating altruism in our hearts and actions. We provide vulnerable and disadvantaged populations access to health care, education and vocational training, clean water, solar electricity, and other sustainable solutions that offer options to find a livelihood and a better life. We work with a grassroots network of local partners, and give special attention to the education and empowerment of girls and women. Karuna-Shechen's name expresses its mission while paying homage to its roots: Karuna means "compassion" in Sanskrit, and Shechen is the name of a major monastery in Tibet.

HandsOn Shanghai Volunteer Service Center

Founded in 2004 by a group of young professionals who believed people can make a difference, HandsOn Shanghai is an officially registered non-profit organization with the Shanghai Civil Affair Bureau since 2010. Governed by a board of 11 members, the HandsOn Shanghai volunteer platform helps to bridge the divide that exists between individuals who are looking to give back to their community and the organizations that would benefit from the support that volunteers can provide. With a primary objective of providing flexible volunteer opportunities for busy professionals and serving local charities in needs, HOS manages a big group of volunteers and a diverse range of community service projects in Shanghai Currently we engage more than 2500 volunteers each month through more than 150 local service projects. Projects that benefit the young and old through long term, committed, partnerships with more than 75 project partners. With our mission is to promote volunteerism, inspire, equip and mobilize people to take action that changes the world, we envision a world in which individuals, students, and corporate leaders are able to discover (and harness) their power to make a difference, participate as volunteers, and participants in the development of healthy, vibrant, and resilient communities.

There are many sports clubs in Berlin. We are a sports club for women/lesbians, trans*, inter* and girls. SEITENWECHSEL was founded in 1988. Today our club is a queer-feminist learning and movement space, created by full-time staff and many volunteers. We want the participation and self-determination of womenLesbiansTrans*Inter* and girls in sports and otherwise. We fight against any form of discrimination. We reject any form of discrimination. We want to create the safest possible spaces for this. Everyone should feel comfortable with us. - What is especially important to us: - Gender self-definition counts. You decide how you want to be addressed. - You decide your name and your pronoun. We mutually accept how people want to be addressed. Names and pronouns (like other things) can change. - There are many ways people are excluded. For example, there is racism, classism, and disability discrimination. No one form of discrimination is more important than another. Different forms of discrimination can work together. - We would like to see a conscious approach to discrimination in the club. The language in the sports groups should appeal to all people. It should not exclude any people.

Concern Organization for women and children (CWC) is an independent non- profit organization working to support women and children through empowering them economically and giving them a better chance to health , nutrition and education services Concern aims to develop and uphold standards and create an environment in which every woman and child can exercise their human rights and live up to their full potential. It aims to raise the women level and development expertise to enable them to fully and effectively participate in the cultural, economic and social life in order to achieve progress. Concern is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour towards children and insists that the survival, protection and development of children are universal development imperatives that are integral to human progress. Concern works on development and organization of the women energies and coordinate their efforts within the organized collective action in order to remove social and legal barriers that prevent their development and prevent them from full and effective participation in the community building through supporting institutional capacity for women and train them on modern skills and work to encourage women to use the technology and get along with continuous variables to achieve women economic empowerment through the following: 1- Economic empowerment and facilitating access to soft loans 2- Encourage productive family's projects in coordination with donors 3- Contribute to the reduction of illiteracy 4- Achieving gender equality 5- protect women and children from violence through psychosocial support programs for marginalized groups in Yemen.
