Brother, Help Thyself Inc. (BHT) is a community based organization that provides financial and other support to non-profit organizations serving the LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS communities in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. metro area. Brother, Help Thyself was founded in 1978 by four gay motorcycle clubs and is one of the first organizations in the United States to provide funding for LGBTQ health, cultural, and social services. The first fund drive by the capital area board of leather and Levi motorcycle clubs raised $4,518. BHT was formed to award that grant to the gay men’s vd clinic which was having financial difficulties at that time. During the past 38 years, we have raised and distributed over $3 million to more than 130 groups in our community. Brother Help Thyself raises funds throughout the year and then disburses direct and matching funds, partners with grantees on fundraisers and other events, acts as a clearinghouse for donated goods and services, and serves as an information resource to the LGBTQ community.

SLC6A1 Connect is a patient advocacy group dedicated to improving the lives of children and families affected by SLC6A1. Our focus is to raise awareness and funding to advance scientific research that will ultimately result in a cure.

The Tegan and Sara Foundation fights for health, economic justice and representation for LGBTQ girls and women. This mission is founded on a commitment to feminism and racial, social and gender justice. In partnership and solidarity with other organizations fighting for LGBTQ and women's rights, the Foundation raises awareness and funds to address the inequalities currently preventing LGBTQ girls and women from reaching their full potential. This work is critically important because… LGBTQ women have higher rates of gynecological cancer, depression, obesity, suicide and tobacco/alcohol abuse. Discriminatory laws, provider bias, insurance exclusions and inadequate reproductive health coverage leave 29% of LGBTQ women struggling to pay for health insurance. A quarter of lesbian women live in poverty. LGB women of color are three times more likely to live in poverty than their white peers. Transgender women are four times more likely to have a household income under $10,000 and twice as likely to be unemployed. One in five transgender women has reported being homeless at some point. Less than 1% of TV characters are lesbians. In 2016, 25 queer female characters were killed on-screen – continuing a decades-long trend.

The mission of the Noah's Hope – Hope4Bridget Foundation is to raise funds in support of scientific research, and inform the community about Batten Disease. Batten Disease is a rare, fatal autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorder that begins in childhood.

At Valley Center for the Blind we join together in a spirit of dedication to assist blind and visually impaired persons in experiencing a more independent and opportunity filled life. These efforts are achieved through specialized methods of training and education provided by our professional staff. With over 40 years of experience, Valley Center for the Blind believes that every individual should have the opportunity to live independently and we teach adaptive techniques to make this a possibility for the visually impaired. Our primary goal is to support each and every client that walks through our doors. Whether it be educational support from our classes, emotional assistance from our counselors, or a new camaraderie found in one of our activities. We aspire to serve anyone dealing wtih vision loss and vision impairment by helping them reestablish independence, build confidence, and find new ways to enjoy life!

Tackling the water crisis by funding, supporting and advocating for community WASH (water, sanitation & hygiene) programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Their mission is to increase awareness of WASH challenges and solutions, and most importantly convert that heightened awareness into ACTION.

TAAF is dedicated to bettering the lives, support networks, and medical care of those affected by aneurysm and other types of vascular malformation of the brain. In support of that mission, we have three primary goals that guide foundation activities: Provide support, including information, resources and motivation, for people with aneurysm and other types of vascular malformation of the brain, their families, caregivers and friends. Promote education and awareness in the community regarding aneurysm and other types of vascular malformation of the brain. Provide encouragement and funding for research on aneurysm and other types of vascular malformation of the brain in an effort to advance patient treatment and care.

We have a mission that aligns our work: to provide healthcare as a human right to the poor in Sierra Leone. We do this through our community health work and high quality clinical care in Kono District.

The San Diego Brain Tumor Foundation serves the local community by providing funds to patients and their families who are coping with the daily stresses and difficulties of a brain tumor diagnosis. Through generous donations and our fundraising efforts, we can provide a variety of essential services to the brain tumor community.

We are committed to increasing Alzheimer’s and Dementia awareness. Our mission is to raise private funding for Alzheimer’s research with the goal of eradicating the disease by the year 2020. We strive to serve as a resource for those suffering from this disease and provide an opportunity for the masses to share “their story” of how Alzheimer’s has affected their loved ones.
