Every 14 seconds, a child is orphaned by AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. Nyumbani serves these abandoned children in Kenya, providing a loving home, medical services and community-based care in the slum communities of Nairobi. Nyumbani Village is a self-sustaining community to serve orphans and elders who have been left behind by the "lost generation" of the AIDS pandemic.

Friends of Patients at the NIH, formerly Friends of the Clinical Center, provides financial, logistical and social support to patients while they are receiving groundbreaking and life-saving treatments at the NIH Clinical Research Center. Our mission is to find a effective treatments and ultimately a cure for fragile X syndrome, the most common inherited cause of autism. We directly fund research grants and fellowships at top universities around the world. FRAXA was founded in 1994 by three parents of children with fragile X. Fragile X Syndrome is the most common inherited cause of autism and intellectual disabilities. It affects 1 in 4000 boys and 1 in 6000 girls worldwide, and one in 260 women and 1 in 800 men are carriers. Treatments for fragile X are likely to help people affected by related disorders including autism, Alzheimers, and many other brain disorders.
