Despite significant reductions across the nation, tobacco use is still the number one cause of preventable death in the United States, killing more than 400,000 people every year. Since being established in 1999, the American Legacy Foundation (Legacy) has developed a comprehensive understanding of the tobacco crisis and the many issues that surround it. Legacy is the nation's largest and most effective independent public health charity dedicated to tobacco use prevention and smoking cessation.
