HANDS AROUND THE WORLD seeks to help vulnerable children around the world, encouraging enthusiastic and well-prepared volunteers to offer practical help, skill-sharing, support and friendship.

The International Legal Foundation assists countries emerging from conflict or transition to establish public defender systems that provide effective, quality criminal defense services to the poor. In 2003, the ILF opened Afghanistan's first independent public defender office in Kabul, and has since established public defender offices in Nepal and the West Bank. The ILF's mission is to assist post-conflict and transitional countries to establish public defender systems that provide quality and effective criminal defense services to the poor. In carrying out its mission, the ILF is driven by the belief that defense lawyers - as guardians of due process - are indispensible to any fair system of justice, and every person accused of a crime should have access to one. We work solely in countries emerging from conflict where governments have recognized the right to counsel and are committed to building a strong and fair system of justice, and aim to ensure that laws that guarantee the right to counsel are meaningfully implemented in ways that respect the historical, practical and cultural context of each country. The lack of qualified lawyers available to provide criminal defense representation to the poor is a serious problem in post-conflict and transitional countries. Many of these countries guarantee the right to counsel to persons accused of crimes in their constitutions and other domestic laws. Moreover, many have ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which requires them to ensure the right to counsel. Yet in practice, there are few defense lawyers for the poor in many developing countries. Those that do practice are often grossly unqualified. Without access to counsel there can be no rule of law and accused persons remain vulnerable to arbitrary detention, coerced and tortured confessions, wrongful convictions and other abuses. The ILF fulfills an essential role in post-conflict reconstruction. Although there is a growing focus on rule of law in post-conflict countries, rule of law projects have placed a heavy emphasis on rebuilding courts and law enforcement institutions and give little attention to the critical role of defense, particularly criminal defense services for the poor. The ILF addresses this need by providing indigent accused persons with access to competent, well-trained defense lawyers. This helps to ensure that laws and constitutional provisions protecting the rights of the accused are implemented and that all citizens have equal access to justice.

Each student is an individual who has diverse aptitudes and different learning styles. Building on this fundamental concept, The Toa Nafasi Project addresses the needs of primary students in Tanzania to assess their abilities, cultivate strengths, and resolve weaknesses. We work with teachers, parents, and the community at large to enrich the classroom experience and devise innovative and inspiring teaching methodologies that encourage participation and critical thinking. The goal of The Toa Nafasi Project is to elicit creativity and distinction in academic performance, extracurricular activities, and to provide each student with a chance to excel.

The Abortion Survivors Network is the only advocacy and support organization for abortion survivors and their families world-wide. It is founded and directed by abortion survivor, Melissa Ohden, MSW. We provide help and hope to abortion survivors and all impacted by abortion, and we humanize the unborn and abortion survivors in a way no one else can.The Abortion Survivors Network provides social and healing support to survivors and their families, while raising awareness in the public about the incidence of failed abortions and the experiences of abortion survivors. We firmly believe that as abortion survivors and families are supported and the public educated about the incidence of failed abortions and the lives of survivors, that a culture of life will be restored.

The mission of Jean Houston Foundation is to promote positive social change by developing international communities of leaders in Social Artistry to apply a wide range of cutting edge leadership and human potential development skills for finding innovative solutions to critical local and global issues. Sisters Of The Road exists to build authentic relationships and alleviate the hunger of isolation in an atmosphere of nonviolence and gentle personalism that nurtures the whole individual, while seeking systemic solutions that reach the roots of homelessness and poverty to end them forever. We believe that all individuals are equally worthy, that no one has a monopoly on the truth, and that we have much to learn from one another. We consistently refuse to participate in or condone any act of violence, harm or humiliation, including sexism or racism. Our founding goals are to be a safe, public place for everyone, especially women and children, to offer nourishing meals at little cost or in exchange for labor, and to offer job training and employment experience to local residents. For thirty-five years, Sisters' has worked to fulfill these goals and to build a community based on nonviolence, dignity, and systemic change.

We fight to conserve wildlife, habitats, and ecosystems, by ensuring that international and national legal frameworks and policies are robust, well-implemented, and enforced.
