Our mission is to unite women in our community to make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Our goal is to collectively raise funds to support unmet charity needs in Contra Costa and Alameda counties and raise awareness for deserving organizations.

We offer local leaders capacity building, collaborative forums and the funding support they need to improve their communities. We support grassroots change makers in the United States and in developing countries in four impact areas - governance, education, healthcare and economic development.

About Us: Our Bridgeport club was founded in 1992, and is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas which was founded in 1921. Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. A 501(c)(3) organization, Soroptimist relies on charitable contributions to fund its programs. Local members join with almost 100,000 Soroptimists in more than120 countries and territories to contribute time and financial support to community-based projects benefiting women. Soroptimist International has consultative status with the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council, which oversees U.N. activities promoting human rights. In addition to sponsoring the awards programs, our club has participated in community programs focused on various health and human service issues for women and girls, such as the Center for Women and Families, Mi Casa/My Home, Women and Men’s Health Project, Project Courage, and Local Soup Kitchens. The Kakenya Center for Excellence seeks to empower and motivate young girls through education to become agents of change and to break the cycle of destructive cultural practices in Maasai Kenya such as female genital cutting and early forced marriage. We believe in impacting one girl at a time, one community at a time, until all girls in Africa have the opportunities they need to thrive as individuals. These future women leaders will improve their communities, their nation, and the world.

Working with local grassroots charities and NGOs in 13 countries across the globe, the Global Vision International (GVI) Charitable Trust manages and raises funds for numerous long-term programs. These funds are used to support our local partners with the aims of alleviating poverty, illiteracy, environmental degradation and climate change. We do this through education, nutrition, conservation and capacity building. Our work focuses upon 3 key objectives: awareness, impact and empowerment. The aim is to create awareness of global issues, have a direct impact on those issues locally and empower our alumni, be they volunteers, donors, staff or community members, to continue impacting local issues on a global level.

For the better part of 100 years, Soroptimist has been working to empower women and girls throughout the world. Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. Over 30,000 members in 20 countries and territories participate in the Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women; Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls; and local projects tailored to meet the community needs of women and girls.

Arts To End Genocide combines the power of art and technology to bridge cultural divides and to create a dialogue about human rights between children around the world. Artists have always had the power to touch people on a profound emotional level. Today, new media technology enables us to impact a broader audience. The message being delivered is one of tolerance and human rights. We engage, educate and activate in a call for social justice.

We envision a world where important stories are told by the communities who know them best in order to inform laws, systems and policies that promote justice and equality for all. To make that vision a reality, p.h. balanced films supports women working toward social justice and policy change through multi-day knowledge exchange sessions on the use of film and storytelling for advocacy purposes and a mentorship program to provide ongoing, global support of their efforts.

Care for Children is a global children’s charity with a vision and mission to see children across the world moved out of orphanages and into local families. We provide specialised training and support to orphanages, enabling them to set-up and run their own foster care programmes, as a safe and positive alternative to institutional care. This means that local authorities can start moving children out of orphanages and into local, loving families, where each child can be nurtured to reach their potential.

To provide early educational opportunities to needy children and to create conditions that will help them succeed in life. To promote early education as a means to overcome poverty, reduce AIDS, gender inequality and political oppression. To setup schools to be used not only as centers of education, but as community resources and health centers for the benefit of students, their families and the community in which they are located. To establish bonds between our students in Ethiopia and children all over the world by sponsoring music, travel, language and cultural education programs.

Our mission is to promote prevention of infectious diseases (HIV, TB, and HPV) in Mali while working to develop vaccines for distribution on a not-for-profit basis in the developing world. The Foundation's activities are centered on four themes: education, prevention, access to care, and vaccines. Through our active, ongoing collaboration with West African physicians and support for prevention-related clinical activities in the region, we work to improve the health of Malian children and their parents while setting the stage for ethical vaccine trials.

Mission:1) To raise money to purchase malaria nets for needy Africans to protect them from sickness and death. When children are not sick with malaria, they can attend more days of school. Parents have more time to work, and they spend less of their small income on malaria medication. 2) To ensure the nets are used correctly volunteers educate the bednet recipients about malaria, the benefits of bednets, and how to use nets. 3) To educate U.S. students about the burden of malaria in the world.
