By bringing laughter, comfort and countless smiles to more than 275,000 children annually, our programs offer relief from the constant burden of treatment, hospital stays and doctor appointments. We serve kids facing a variety of health issues – from those receiving chemo treatments in a clinic, to those who live with a chronic illness that may not be visible. IMANI HOUSE's mission is to assist low-income youth, families, and immigrants to create viable neighborhoods where residents are decision makers who take responsibility for the improvement of their lives and surroundings. This is achieved through programs that provide Youth and Family Support Services Including Health Care, Health Education, Adult Literacy, and Information and Referral Services. Founded in Liberia W. Africa Imani House believes that anyone can achieve success and a higher quality of life if only they have access to appropriate information, skills and opportunities. Our programs in Liberia and Brooklyn use a bottom-up approach where grassroots people are recruited as trainers and employees and run our programs within their own communities.
Mercy in Action is a non-profit organization that focuses on the crisis in Maternal/Newborn/Child health care worldwide. We have been establishing and funding free birth centers for poor families in the Philippines since 1992, and to date more than 12,000 babies have been delivered free of charge for the poorest of the poor in Mercy In Action's Birth Centers, and literally tens of thousands of lives have been helped and healed in the medical outreaches. Mercy In Acton also teaches clinical internships, seminars and training retreats to prepare midwives, medics and nurses to meet the global shortage of skilled birth attendants, and to help primary health care workers prevent unnecessary child deaths.
Founded in 1988 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester, NY, Daystar Kids is NY’s only Pediatric Respite Center supporting infants and children whose early learning has been disrupted by hospitalization and treatment for their complex health care conditions. Daystar’s coordinated continuum of intensive pediatric nursing, educational, developmental, and family support services position each child and their family for success from the moment they’re discharged from the hospital. Daystar's center-based, specialized early childhood programs and services provide equal access to children who are excluded from participating in other programs due to their health care needs, and promotes their development, advances their independence, and helps them enter kindergarten alongside their peers.
