ALAMEDA BACKYARD GROWERS INC

Your financial gifts as well as of your time (shout out to our volunteers) help ABG offer our programs – monthly educational gardening meetings (now on-line due to COVID-19 distancing requirements), our eNewsletter, started in April 2020 to provide victory gardening information for Alameda’s vegetable and fruit growers, our active and popular Project Pick program and our Free Seed Libraries. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is a nonpartisan, 501c3 non-profit organization and a member of the Feeding America National Network of Food Banks. As a Feeding America Food Bank, we recover and distribute food to our low-income neighbors, but we know putting food on a plate is not enough. We also provide programs designed to empower people with skills to meet their own food needs through culinary job training, beginner gardening, and cooking healthy on a budget. We feed, teach, and grow to create a hunger-free and healthy community.

Elijahs Promise

Since 1989, Elijah’s Promise has harnessed the power of food to break the cycle of poverty, alleviate hunger and change lives for the most vulnerable members of our Central New Jersey community. We operate a community soup kitchen, culinary arts school, catering business, community gardens and connect low-income individuals and families with social and health services. With the support of volunteers, donors and community partners, we serve more than 200,000 free meals per year and train previously unskilled workers for careers in the culinary arts.

Food Hugs

During COVID and even before, when we could give real hugs anymore- we decided to give people food hugs. This meant feeding weary nurses and doctors, EMT’s, police officers, firefighters, and families who had lost loved ones. We brought them free meals from Food Hugs to life their spirits. We also started #tipbackthursday by surprising local restaurant workers with tips of over $1,000 at a time. We also have a scholarship for females who want to become chefs/restaurant owners.

Carversville Farm Foundation

Carversville Farm Foundation is a non-profit that grows fresh food specifically for donation to local communities in need. We run a certified organic farm where we raise top-quality vegetables, poultry, beef and eggs, and we donate over ninety percent of our harvests to Philadelphia-area soup kitchens and food pantries. In 2021, we gave more than 145,000 pounds of food, including pastured poultry and grass-fed beef and a wide variety of fresh produce. We also sustain the environment through our rigorous organic farming practices and train future farmers through our apprentice program.

Hope Network Of Raytown

Hope Network reaches out, meets needs, and changes lives by leveraging a plethora of local resources. The mission of Hope Network is to offer hope to the hungry and hurting by delivering exemplary care, affirming value, and meeting basic needs. These critical services enable the impoverished Raytown population to build a foundation to meet the basic daily requirements to succeed. At each point of service a client is met with a volunteer case manager who personally works with the client. The individualized attention allows for a relationship of trust to be built, creating fertile ground for growth. Our goal is to usher families out of a life of poverty by meeting their immediate food need, equipping them with tools for success, while filling them with hope for the future.

Star Kid

Most of the rural children in India are undernourished because they eat poor quality food due to ignorance coupled with poverty. Because of their malnutrition most of the children are not alert and poor in their studies. Many children are also anemic and susceptible to frequent infections. To counteract that condition STAR KID provides all children with nutritious lunch comprised of lentils, green leafy vegetables, rice and clarified butter. They also use fortified salt with Iodine and Iron to improve their general health. The lunch is supplanted by a glass of milk in the afternoon. This lunch cost only $1 for the whole day for 1 child. Donate and sponsor a Child’s food for a Month or an year or keep a child hunger free for a lifetime.

Feed the World

Feed The World's mission is to empower poor smallholder farm families to feed themselves and provide for the future through sustainable farming. Guiding Principles - Seeds of Dignity and Hope are planted in the hearts of our smallholder farm families as they work together to provide for themselves and build a better future. Transparency & Accountability means that we will do exactly what we promise to do in the communities we serve and that we will be open and honest with our donors in communicating how funds are being used. Lasting Self Reliance is achieved as families obtain sufficient knowledge and education, manage resources wisely, and prepare for the future so that they will continue to thrive after our support ends. Sustainable Farming is practiced by smallholder farm families as they plan, plant, and harvest food for themselves and their livestock, while building human capacity to recognize and enhance the efficient use of their natural resources. Nutrition & Income are the core benefits to smallholder farm families as they grow and produce foodstuffs that provide for a nutritionally balanced diet on an economically sustainable basis. Scientifically Proven Methodology guides the implementation of agricultural best practices with our smallholder farm families and on our demonstration farms. We also support further scientific research through partnerships with universities, governments, and other non-governmental organizations (NGO's). Mutual Respect is the goal of our in-country agronomists, nutritionists, and animal scientists as they interact with smallholder farm families, seeking to understand the "why" behind traditional practices, and always exploring new possibilities. Training & Education in sustainable farming, nutrition, food preparation, and hygiene are key to ensuring that lasting self reliance is achieved by smallholder farm families. Honoring Culture means that our programs work within the local cultural framework to empower and educate smallholder farm families without imposing an outside culture on them. Family Focus involves both women and men in all aspects of decision making, training, and education; and keeps children and parents united and working together on their land. Feeding the Spirit means that while Feed the World does not identify itself with one particular religion or belief system, we honor the spirituality of all human beings and serve all program participants irrespective of their beliefs or social station. Pay It Forward means that we expect our smallholder farm families to pass on their seeds, stock, and knowledge to other families in need once they have successfully provided for themselves.
