The mission of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina is to feed hungry people by soliciting and distributing food and household items through partner agencies. Second Harvest works to educate people in the community about the nature of and solutions to the problem of hunger. Second Harvest supplies food throughout a 19 county region of North and South Carolina through a network of over 700 emergency pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and programs for low-income children and seniors.

Our mission is to raise public awareness, provide educational outlets, use specialized programming, assist and encourage refugee women, girls and families displaced by the Darfur conflict so they may re-establish personal empowerment and flourishing communities in the face of adversity. Darfur Women Network, Inc. works with both refugees in Chad and those who have immigrated to the United States. We work to empower Darfuri women so that they can help their families, and therefore their communities.

Long Beach Community Table's mission is to contribute to the health, well-being, empowerment and self-determination of under-served populations in the greater Long Beach Community by providing affordable, nutritious, organic foods, hygiene products, clothing and other resources, such as a community garden, garden building and education on self sustainability, etc. accessible to all through a locally-oriented, collectively-managed not-for-profit organization. It is also our intention to be a platform for mutually-beneficial community connections.

The High Atlas Foundation is a Moroccan association and a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2000 by former Peace Corps Volunteers committed to furthering sustainable development. HAF supports Moroccan communities to take action in implementing human development initiatives. It promotes sustainable organic agriculture, women’s empowerment, youth development, education, health, and capacity building. Since 2011, HAF has maintained Consultancy Status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

Udavum Karangal (Helping Hands) is a registered, non-governmental, non-religious and non-profit social service organization, established in 1983, with the sole objective of serving people in need. Udavum Karangal believes that everyone deserves to be loved. Till date, there have been around 2000 unfortunate brethren from new born babies to dying destitutes who have found a home here. The centre provides individualized services - treatment, care, rehabilitation and education.

The Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center was established in 1988 by the Maine Legislature with a mission to assist in developing economically and environmentally sustainable aquaculture opportunities in Maine. MAIC sponsors and facilitates innovative research and development projects involving food, pharmaceuticals, and other products from sustainable aquatic systems; invests in the enhancement of aquaculture capacity in Maine; serves as a source of educational information to enhance public visibility and acceptance of aquaculture; and encourages strategic alliances tasked with promoting research, technology transfer, and the commercialization of aquaculture research.

The mission of AAI is to build hope and empower communities afflicted by armed conflict and severe poverty. We believe that peace, security and respect for human dignity are inseparable. Our goal is to develop programs as sustainable models that can be replicated globally. Our people-to-people initiatives integrate health, education, arts and livelihood as a basis for mediation. By building Hope, we overcome the hatred propagated by terror organizations. The success of these cost-effective models shows that empowering impoverished and conflict-plagued communities strengthens international security, stability and peace.

Amigos de Jesús is a home and bilingual school for children in Honduras that has cared for hundreds of children who have suffered the indignities of abuse, neglect, homelessness and hunger in one of the hemisphere’s poorest countries. Amigos de Jesús is a permanent safe haven with shelter, food and education for over 120 children. Amigos de Jesús aims to walk alongside our children from the time they arrive, afraid and traumatized, until the time that they are ready to move out into the world as adults prepared for responsibility and citizenship within their country of origin.

Your financial gifts as well as of your time (shout out to our volunteers) help ABG offer our programs – monthly educational gardening meetings (now on-line due to COVID-19 distancing requirements), our eNewsletter, started in April 2020 to provide victory gardening information for Alameda’s vegetable and fruit growers, our active and popular Project Pick program and our Free Seed Libraries. Through these and other initiatives we help address climate change, food scarcity and build community in Alameda.

Food for Lane county administers innovative programs that respond to the immediate crisis of hunger and help individuals and families address chronic food insecurity through self-sufficiency and education. We distributed 8.1 million pounds of food through our 153 partner agencies in 2014-2015. The largest program, the emergency food box program, served a total of 69,696 individuals in Lane county. We also recruited, trained and mobilized thousands of community volunteers who donated 69,000 hours to this hunger relief effort.

The Iraqi Children Foundation intervenes with love and hope in the lives of Iraqi orphans, street kids, and displaced children who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, criminals, extremists, and human traffickers. With the goal of helping under-served communities in India, Nepal, and Tibet receive the vital services they need, Karuna-Shechen was founded in 2000 by Matthieu Ricard (www.matthieuricard.org), renown TED speaker, author, and humanitarian. We strive to reduce inequalities and work toward a fairer and more compassionate world. We trust that communities can be lifted out of poverty, that change is possible, and that the well-being of every individual, regardless of race, gender, class, or caste, is essential. We believe that building on local strengths and knowledge is the most efficient way to respond to the specific needs and aspirations of our beneficiaries. Rooted in the ideal of "compassion in action", we serve others with joy and determination by cultivating altruism in our hearts and actions. We provide vulnerable and disadvantaged populations access to health care, education and vocational training, clean water, solar electricity, and other sustainable solutions that offer options to find a livelihood and a better life. We work with a grassroots network of local partners, and give special attention to the education and empowerment of girls and women. Karuna-Shechen's name expresses its mission while paying homage to its roots: Karuna means "compassion" in Sanskrit, and Shechen is the name of a major monastery in Tibet.
