CHRIS 180

CHRIS 180 was founded in 1981 to provide a brighter future for children in the Georgia foster care system with significant mental health needs. Over the years, we expanded services to provide trauma-informed care to children, adults, and families through counseling at twelve counseling sites and in 83 Title I schools; foster homes for abused and neglected children; adoption services; drop-in centers for teens and young adults; a supportive housing program for youth who are experiencing homelessness or aged out of the foster care system; and in-home programs. We offer physical health care, re-entry, essential support services, and emergency assistance. Our mission is to heal children, strengthen families and build community. Our vision is that high-quality, trauma-informed behavioral health services and support systems are available to all children, adults, and families. Since our founding, we have served over 200,000 children, youth, and families.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL INC - BLOOMINGTON

In Monroe County, Indiana, a person earning minimum wage must work 72 hours every week of the year to afford a two-bedroom apartment. In a county where 1 in 5 people are living in poverty, unaffordable housing holds our community back from being a place that families can call “home”. Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County’s mission is to eliminate poverty housing by building simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with qualifying families. Habitat homeowners pay interest-free, no-profit mortgages, which are used to build more habitat houses. Because houses are principally built with volunteer labor, mortgage payments are affordable for low-income partners. Habitat qualifying families, or partner families, are selected based on their need for housing, ability to repay the no-interest mortgage and willingness to partner with habitat by earning 250 hours of “sweat equity” or volunteer time. Through the work of thousands of volunteers and organizations, habitat for humanity of monroe county has built approx. 170 homes.

Shores Of Grace Ministries

Shores of Grace is a worship and missionary ministry currently headquartered in Recife, Brazil, led by Nic and Rachael Billman. Our focus is setting those in prostitution and abuse free and walking them through restoration; taking the love of the Father to the poor and the broken and helping them see their true value, and equipping and serving the church in Brazil (with bases in Recife, Rio and Fortaleza). The goal of our staff is to reveal Father God in all that we do. Whether we’re leading worship in a church, walking the streets of Brazil or shopping at the local grocery store, we want to reveal the Father. This is the calling that God has placed on our lives and we believe it’s a calling for the whole church, for all of the sons and daughters of the living God. To live a life of compassion and power where miracles and healing follow us everywhere we go, just as they did with Jesus. We also have a base in Philadelphia, PA where Luke and Alisan Billman live their lives with compassion and power for the people in communities surrounding their home.

Bethany House Of Northern Virginia

Bethany House of Northern Virginia is located in Fairfax County, Virginia, providing emergency shelter and support services to women and children escaping domestic violence. We help women and their children who have suffered from domestic violence regain health and dignity. We provide women with safe, restorative care while giving them the support and resources they need to transition into independent lives free from abuse. We are non-jurisdictional. We accept women and children from across Northern Virginia, from the entire Washington, DC metropolitan area, from other states and beyond. Once our families are stabilized, we help them get reestablished in their community by providing temporary housing and support. Realizing the vision of our founder Doris Ward, since 1979, BHNV has been a safe haven for women and children suffering the nightmare of domestic violence while also serving as a resource to our community at large. BHNV is funded by grants and donations from businesses, charitable foundations, churches, organizations, and individual community members.

Summit Helping Its People / Summit Santa Claus Shop

This year, the Santa Claus Shop celebrates its 51st year of continued service here in Summit. The Santa Claus Shop, strictly a volunteer organization, is affiliated with SHIP (Summit Helping Its People). With your help, the Santa Claus Shop magically opens its doors for two days to more than 500 needy families and senior citizens of Summit, New Providence and Berkeley Heights. These individuals are invited to pick out new clothing, house wares and toys for members of their immediate families. On November 29th, 2017 the Santa Claus Shop will open its doors to the community for holiday shopping. Our guests, who are referred to us by social service agencies in the three towns, enjoy a dignified, free shopping experience with complimentary refreshments provided by local businesses and gift wrapping by our volunteers. This project can only continue through the support of those who believe, as we do, that a contribution to the Santa Claus Shop expresses the best values of the holiday season. The shop exists solely based on the donation of local businesses, and volunteers. With the monetary donations from the area residents, local organizations and businesses, the Santa Claus Shop can purchase the gifts that allow less fortunate neighbors to experience the joy of holiday giving without the financial burden.

Vision Our vision is to become a leader in helping low-income people “at risk” for poverty, despair, and violence overcome these challenges so that they not only uplift themselves, but also lend a helping hand to others. Mission The Baron Jay Family Foundation is a global nonprofit organization committed to improving the quality of life of people in living in underserved communities worldwide. Susan B. Anthony Center, Inc.

“Transform families by providing help, hope, and healing for mothers and their children to live responsible drug-free lives.” Created from the vision of a small group of women in the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale in 1995, The Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center has grown from one group home, housing five mothers and six children, to a beautiful 5.5 acre campus in Pembroke Pines with the capacity to serve over sixty families. In addition, through satellite campuses, we are increasing our capacity to serve many more. Our ultimate goals are the removal of barriers for women entering addiction treatment, the prevention of foster care placement for their children, and an end to the cycle of addiction and abuse for families. Since we began in 1995, Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center has helped to reunify over 850 families and has provided the intensive services necessary to stop the cycle of family dysfunction and substance addiction for over 1500 children. One of the largest barriers to entry for mothers seeking treatment is child placement. At the center we focus on supporting both the mother and child(ren). We reduce or eliminate family risk factors by promoting a positive sense of self, delivering individual and group counseling services, providing peer group activities, maintaining well defined structure and offering many opportunities for support. Most importantly, we strive to stop the cycle of addiction by providing the most important protective factor of all, a healthy parent intervening on behalf of the child(ren) during their early development. For nearly 20 years we have done amazing work. Yet, prescription pain killers and heroin use is on the rise, despite the efforts of many. The negative effects to our community are compounded when the addict is a mother and her children are at risk of neglect and abuse. Often, children who are prenatally exposed to drugs or alcohol are also at a high risk for emotional and behavioral challenges. Without intervention, these children are much more likely to become addicts themselves, some in their early teens.
