WE PROVIDE A BROAD VARIETY OF PROGRAMMING TO SUPPORT HOLISTIC WELL-BEING, WITH A FOCUS ON YEAR-ROUND SPORTS TRAINING AND ATHLETIC COMPETITION IN A VARIETY OF OLYMPIC-TYPE SPORTS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES, GIVING THEM CONTINUING OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP PHYSICAL FITNESS, DEMONSTRATE COURAGE, EXPERIENCE JOY, AND PARTICIPATE IN THE SHARING OF GIFTS, SKILLS AND FRIENDSHIPS WITH THEIR FAMILIES, OTHER SPECIAL OLYMPICS ATHLETES AND THE COMMUNITY.
The Nuxhall Foundation carries forward the legacy projects for legendary Cincinnati Reds pitcher and broadcaster, the late Joe Nuxhall. A central legacy project of the foundation is The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields, a comprehensive athletic facility in Fairfield, Ohio for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. Additional foundation projects include The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Scholarship, and The Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund. North Star Reach offers life-changing camp experiences for children with serious health challenges and their families. Campers at North Star Reach experience all of the fun, joy and independence that all children receive at camp and appreciate a rare sense of normalcy. Campers leave with improved self-esteem, restored childhood and a sense of accomplishment at attempting challenges in an environment that provides physical, emotional and medical support and supervision. Campers, staff and volunteers are all impacted in a positive way by the camp experience. Additionally, parents have a much-needed opportunity for respite and many report that their children return from camp with a new sense of autonomy and independence.
