The Common Place

The Common Place is a sacred space to do life together that serves the Southwest Philadelphia community through faith, education, and support.The Common Place seeks to offer holistic care to the children and families of Southwest Philadelphia. Located at the corner of 58th Street and Chester Avenue, we are a shared space where various organizations come together to meet spiritual, educational, and social support needs. With two worshiping communities, an arts-based after school program, social services, and community events, The Common Place is a sacred space to do life together.The Common Place is a ministry of Wayne Presbyterian Church (Wayne, PA), a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We are a faith-based organization that welcomes all people, including those of other religious traditions, into the inclusive love of God made known to us in Jesus Christ.Our Mission Statement:The Common Place serves children and their families in Southwest Philadelphia through educational programs, social service, collaboration, and faith formation.

The Painted Turtle

The Painted Turtle’s mission is to provide a year-round, life-changing environment and authentic camp experience for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The Painted Turtle supports children’s medical needs, inspires them to reach beyond their illnesses, and provides care, education and respite for their families. All campers and families attend free of charge. Of the more than one million children in California with chronic and life-threatening illnesses, our needs assessment revealed more than 17,500 are unable to attend summer camp due to their medical conditions. That is, until we came along! The Painted Turtle provides these children and their families with an empowering, renewing experience completely free of charge. The Painted Turtle offers year-round programs including: Spring and Fall Family Weekends for the entire family, one-day family events, week-long Summer Sessions, and hospital/community outreach programs.  

Taking The Reins

The purpose of Taking the Reins is to provide space where girls are encouraged to act boldly, with courage and confidence through experiences at their equestrian and gardening facility.

The Breakthrough Collaborative

Breakthrough is a collaborative of programs that increases educational opportunity for motivated middle school students and encourages talented high school and college students to pursue careers in education. Breakthrough Collaborative establishes and promotes high standards, ensures the success of all programs and acts as the national voice of the Collaborative.

Rocking the Boat

Rocking the Boat empowers young people challenged by severe economic, educational, and social conditions to develop the self-confidence to set ambitious goals and gain the skills necessary to achieve them.  Students work together to build wooden boats, learn to row and sail, and restore local urban waterways, revitalizing their community while creating better lives for themselves. Kids don’t just build boats at Rocking the Boat, boats build kids.

The Possible Project

The Possible Project utilizes entrepreneurship to inspire young people who have untapped potential, empowering them with the skills required to achieve enduring personal and professional success. We guide our students through a novel dynamic curriculum, hands-on work experience, and assistance with entrepreneurial endeavors and career goals. We strive to have all our students use their skills to move through a high-level career path and improve their communities while remaining committed to the principle that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

Above The Clouds

Above the Clouds brings joy and hope through the wonder of small aircraft flight to children and teens who are seriously ill, disabled, underserved, or facing other serious adversity. ATC’s programs provide important relief for kids under tremendous stress and inspire disengaged youth to participate in making their dreams come true. The non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization accomplishes its mission through its three programs: Dream Flyers, Cadet Flyers, and Discovery Flyers.
