Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation

The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation raises funds for Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH), Dufferin Place Extended Care Facility (Nanaimo), Eagle Park Health Care Facility (Qualicum Beach), Trillium Lodge (Parksville) and the Oceanside Health Centre (Parksville). We own and operate the Nanaimo Lifeline Program and the Code Brew Coffee Kiosk located in the NRGH lobby - all profits support our mission and vision: Our Mission - The Foundation creates opportunities for donors to advance healthcare in our communities. Canadian Mental Health Association

CMHA, National accomplishes its mission through advocacy, education, research and service. For example, as a social advocate, we encourage public action and commitment to strengthening community mental health services, policies and legislation affecting those services. We submit policy statements and briefs to the federal government on behalf of all Canadians. We also collaborate wherever and whenever possible on common issues with mental health service providers, federal government, community organizations, consumers of mental health services and their families. We promote and create innovative programs that address mental health issues; our mental health projects are based on principles of empowerment, peer and family support, participation in decision-making, citizenship, and inclusion in community life. Our programs assist with employment, housing, early intervention for youth, peer support, recreational services, stress reduction workshops, and public education campaigns.

Rabbi: Laura Duhan Kaplan joined Or Shalom in January 2005 after 15 years as Professor of Philosophy, Women's Studies, and Judaic Studies at UNC Charlotte. She received rabbinic ordination from the ALEPH Rabbinic Program headed by R. Zalman Schachter-Shalomi and R. Marcia Prager. Defeat Duchenne Canada

Jesse's Journey, a registered charity dedicated to funding peer-reviewed research toward effective treatment and ultimate cure of genetic neuromuscular diseases, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in particular. Funding derives from the Jesse Davidson Endowment, which will eventually provide at least one million Canadian dollars per year for research.

COVENANT HOUSE VANCOUVER

Covenant House Vancouver offers 24-hour crisis shelter, a 6- 24 month supported living program, street outreach, life-skills training and a daily drop-in for homeless, runaway and street involved youth aged 16-24. Most of our kids have either fled physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse or have been “kicked out” of their homes. Covenant House supports kids exiting the streets while helping them heal from past traumas. We understand that life changes are challenging and do everything in our power to ensure that young people succeed at whatever plan they have chosen for themselves. As long as genuine effort is demonstrated, so is our commitment. .

TROtt Therapeutic Riding Association of Ottawa-Carleton

Located at Equidae Stables, 6362 Bank Street in Greely, TROtt has been serving a wide range of riders with mental, physical and emotional conditions for more than 25 years. Riders with a varied range of conditions can participate in the TROtt program e.g. cerebral palsy, spina bifida, stroke, head injuries, multiple sclerosis, visual impairments and mental difficulties. TROtt operates from March to December, using indoor and outdoor facilities. Lessons are scheduled during the day, evenings and Saturdays

Kennedy NeuroMed Research Foundation

With donor support we promote health by funding the research of qualified donees into the cause, prevention, and treatment of brain health and neurodegenerative disorders. Donor interest matched to research projects is the heart of our charity. Keeping costs to a minimum enables our ability to direct more dollars to research.

MUSICBOX CHILDREN'S CHARITY

MusicBox recognizes the importance of a musical education in a child's development. Music has the capacity to transcend language, social and cultural borders and positively influence other areas of a child's development. MusicBox's music appreciation and individual-lesson programs run in low-income neighbourhoods in Canada, and in other institutions where children are disadvantaged, disabled, ill and therefore unable to partake in a music education. Any interested children of families in these sectors are qualified candidates for the MusicBox Children’s Charity. MusicBox also strives to provide a mentorship program between our volunteer teachers and our child partipants. We provide volunteer opportunities for high school and university students making this a youth-helping-youth initiative, and giving our youth confidence and responsibility. Our programs are administered by a national Board of Directors and regional Chapters run entirely by volunteers.

Waterkeeper Alliance

Founded in 1999 by environmental attorney and activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and several veteran Waterkeepers, Waterkeeper Alliance is a global movement of on-the-water advocates who patrol and protect over 100,000 miles of rivers, streams and coastlines in North and South America, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa. Waterkeepers defend their communities against anyone who threatens their right to clean water - from law-breaking polluters to unresponsive government agencies. Made up of nearly 200 local Waterkeeper organizations, Waterkeeper Alliance keeps Waterkeepers connected, provides them with legal, scientific and communications support, and unites their voices as they take on major global water issues together.

WELLSPRING CANCER SUPPORT FOUNDATION

Wellspring is open to all cancer patients, their families and care givers, all of whom are known as members. Wellspring is welcoming and comfortable in nature, external to hospitals or treatment centres, and is devoid of any “institutional” feeling. Volunteers and group leaders providing programs at Wellspring deliver only cancer support services and not medical treatment or medical therapies, nor services for patients with diseases other than cancer. Wellspring receives no government funding and offers all programs and services at no charge to our members and without referral.

PALS Pet Access League Society

PALS is a non-profit, registered, charitable organization located in Calgary, Alberta, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of individuals through pet therapy. Volunteers and their pets currently visit at 50 facilities throughout the city including hospitals, seniors' long-term care facilities, classes for children with special needs, residential care and other care facilities that provide programs for individuals with limited access to the greater community. In addition, PALS has partnered with the Calgary Public Library for the Story PALS literacy program. This program gives children with literacy issues an opportunity to improve their skills through reading to dogs. All PALS programs are provided free to the participants and facilities we serve.

FOOD BANKS CANADA

Food Banks Canada is a national charitable organization representing the food bank community across Canada. Our members and their respective agencies serve approximately 85 per cent of people accessing emergency food programs nationwide.
