ESPC focus centers on topics related to low-income and poverty. Our work includes undertaking research into the nature and magnitude of social issues in our community; public awareness and understanding of current social issues; being an independent voice in the community; encouraging public participation in the development of social policies and the implementation of programs. The strength of our voice and our role in the community is based on the support of people and organizations concerned about social issues. ESPC conducts research and analyzes data, produces reports, provides recommendations, is a depository of information, provides public eduction, conducts focus groups, does presentation, and works collaboratively with other social agencies.

Social Justice 4 All will promote greater public understanding of the negative impacts of racism and economic injustice on all members of our community, will promote community efforts and projects to address social needs and improve community relationships, and will organize, plan, manage and/or execute specific projects or programs to improve the lives of individuals or communities negatively affected by racism and/or social inequities.

The SDSVM was born in August 2008 following the Social & Economic Forum held in May 2008, during which the need for such a society was acknowledged. The SDSVM is based on the principle of social solidarity and the pooling of various human, technical and economic resources to help meet the grave social problems facing downtown Montreal. The expertise of citizens' organizations and community groups, combined with that of business and the financial leaders, can create strong social cohesion, leading to a pooling of resources for the purpose of reducing economic inequality. The SDSVM desires to bring together those who wish to build their own environment, in a positive and open spirit, citizens willing to join forces, with respect for all, and businesses motivated to take prompt concrete action.
