Carolina Children's Home

Carolina Children's Home has cared for South Carolina's young people for close to 100 years. During that time, the Home's mission has evolved to better meet the needs of our society, growing from a traditional rescue orphanage into one of the state's leading rehabilitative treatment centers for abused and neglected children and adolescents. Today, the average age of the CCH resident is 15, and a child may stay with us for as short a time as 30 days or as long as a few years - all dependent upon the child's needs. CCH can assist up to 94 residents at one time and individual treatment programs center around self-esteem, relationships, emotional development and behavioral therapy.

World Children's Initiative

World Children's Initiative, Inc., is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, dedicated to improving medical and educational systems for children in developing areas worldwide. Established in 2005, WCI grew from the experience of three young professionals of South Asian descent during their visit to Sri Lanka in February 2005. For Dr. Kanishka Ratnayaka, who is an ethnic Sinhalese, and Mr. Pratheepan Gulasekaram, an ethnic Tamil, the service mission was a deeply personal matter undertaken to aid friends, and family. The two men reached across the frontlines of a bloody, decades-long civil war to collaborate in the relief effort. The group of friends visited relief camps and orphanages to provide medical assistance at makeshift treatment centers. In addition, they brought school supplies and clothes to orphanages on the hard-hit eastern shore of the island. While providing immediate relief, the group also surveyed potential long-term projects for improvement of pediatric health care. Based on this assessment the team decided to initiative their maiden initiative, Project Peds: Sri Lanka.  Project Peds designed and constructed a new children's hospital in Matara, Sri Lanka, an area hard-hit by the tsunami. Currently, WCI is launching its second initiative, Project Heart: Uganda, aiming to improve screening and treatment of childhood heart disease in Uganda and east Africa.

Children's Care International

In 2003, CCI opened the Rainbow Centre in Andhra Pradesh in India which, up until 2009, took in about one hundred child labourers. Caught up in the endless cycle of slavery, these children used to labour in conditions that threatened their safety and development. Together with their families, they now enjoy health care, and access to education and career training as well as to microcredit programmes. In 2010, CCI enrolled them in the best schools in their area, where they are getting very good grades; these children are closer now than ever to their dream of holding a decent job.Since 2009, CCI finances the administration costs of the Santikham Centre outside Bangkok, Thailand, which is managed by the Foundation for Child Development, a Thai non-governmental organisation. FCD strives to better the lives of child labourers and their families, who have illegally crossed into Thailand and are thus particularly vulnerable to manipulation and exploitation.

Victoria Children's Choir

Every season (from September to June) six dozen young choristers - led by Artistic Director Madeleine Humer, and our award-winning artistic team - collaborate to learn and perform extraordinary music. Children in our Apprentice and Concert Choirs (ages eight to eighteen) are immersed in advanced choral music mentorship and singing to advance their natural abilities. At the Victoria Children's Choir, we are fans of beautiful, fun, unexpected, and challenging music. Every season, we explore compositions both rare and well-known. Singers learn classical and contemporary styles, custom arrangements, specially commissioned works, and songs that highlight language and sound. Once practiced and perfected, the Choirs share their award-winning repertoire at a variety of signature concerts, guest appearances, and community events. From weekly rehearsals to monthly performances, special events and annual tours, the Choir inspires minds, hearts, and voices of enthusiastic young singers!

Children's Radio Foundation

The Children's Radio Foundation (CRF) uses radio training and broadcast to create opportunities for youth dialogue, participation, leadership, and active citizenship. Through giving youth the tools and skills to produce radio, young people are mobilized to engage in productive dialogue about the issues they face, and work together to improve their lives and communities. With 74 youth radio projects across six African countries, CRF works with radio stations and CBOs to create local platforms for discussion, information sharing, social engagement, and action. Our reporters take on issues that resonate with youth in their community, including but not limited to children's rights, sexual reproductive health and rights, power dynamics in teenage relationships, gender norms and stereotypes, HIV and AIDS-related issues, climate change, and the environment. Speaking in local languages and in a youth-friendly style, they interview community members, host debates, and bring out local perspectives. Their reporting projects, broadcasts, and outreach activities are geared to generate discussion about issues facing youth.
