POISE (Providing Opportunities for Independence and Social Experiences) is an organization dedicated to maximizing the human potential of children with social communication disorders – specifically those diagnosed with Asperger’s disorder or high functioning autism. These truly exceptional youngsters are creative, passionate and intelligent people whose inability to appropriately connect with their peers hinders their capacity to share their gifts and talents with the outside world and often leaves them feeling socially isolated and depressed. Summer camp communities help children feel valued and connected; they build self-esteem, facilitate lasting friendships and instill core values. Camps that specialize in children with high functioning autism spectrum disorders are uniquely positioned to cultivate the social and life skills these underserved children need to be truly successful and productive adults. POISE exists to provide scholarships to families who could not otherwise afford to give their children the magical – and critically life-changing – experience of summer camp.

San Francisco Bay Area Physicians for Social Responsibility works to protect human life from the gravest threats to health and survival. We educate the public and policy makers on issues regarding environmental health and sustainability, national and global security, nuclear disarmament, social justice, and violence prevention.

Social Advocates for Youth provides support, opportunities and hope to children, youth and families. We are dedicated to creating and supporting a caring community where all children, youth and families grow, thrive and succeed.

Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is a non-profit agency that provides an array of community-based human services to individuals and families in over 90 communities throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Mission statement: Act compassionately. Serve humbly. Lead courageously.

The Portuguese Organization for Social Services and Opportunities (POSSO) is a non-profit charitable corporation and its mission is to improve the quality of life of low-income immigrants and their families, and other disadvantaged persons, by serving as a bridge to the resources of the greater community. In pursuit of this mission, the organization provides social, recreational, cultural and educational activities as well as mobilizing support for other community programs that protect and enhance the human potential. We hear the concerns and needs that individuals bring to us, and we assist in addressing the appropriate public or private entity in search of equitable resolution. In this way, POSSO has been instrumental in creating resources where none existed before.

Your annual membership and donation dollars help ensure that our organization is able to provide services (such as the BC Transit Ticket Assistance Program), resources, (such as the Living Wage and Affordability Index), and leadership (such as our work in food security) that we have brought to this community for many years. You can also choose to direct your donation toward the development of our new Community Investment Fund for affordable housing and community enterprise in the Capital Region. Your financial contributions support new ways of working together to create a vibrant and sustainable community and to support new initiatives to tackle the many challenges to the quality of life for people in the region.
