BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA - 160 CROSSROADS OF AMERICA COUNCIL

Crossroads of America aims to involve all eligible children and their families in the fun and adventure of our Scouting programs. We provide extraordinary youth development programs that strengthen values, develop leadership skills, provide lifelong learning and instill the habit of service to others. Crossroads of America Council is widely acknowledged as a community and national leader in serving youth, families and neighborhoods. Through our Scouting programs, we develop partnerships with children and families, community organizations, volunteers, boards and many other people and groups. Above all, we strive to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling the values of Scouting.

THE NORTH BAY LITERACY COUNCIL o/a Literacy Nipissing

The North Bay Literacy Council provides literacy upgrading in reading, writing, spelling, math and computers to adults 16 years of age and out of school. We offer one to one tutoring and/or small group instruction at no charge to participants. All participants receive a literacy assessment and training plan. We work with each individual to help them meet their goals. All information is kept in the strictest confidence. We also offer special training workshops for Retail Essential Skills and Best Self Forward. There is usually a charge for these workshops. All volunteer tutors are trained at a 15 hour workshop. There is a charge for this workshop and participants receive a provincial tutor certificate and a tutor handbook. The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul has served those in need in over 100 countries around the world for over 160 years. In the Greater Toronto Area we have 1100+ volunteer members visiting the homes of those in need to bring material assistance (food and clothing vouchers, and arrangements for some basic furniture), compassion, hope, and information. We serve those in greater need through 22 Special Works, including Marygrove Camp for Girls, shelters for women, homes for recovering alcoholics, and homes for adults who are developmentally handicapped or struggling with mental health issue. We aso operate 4 stores where used items (donated)are available at very reasonable prices. With our volunteers and staff we are using your donation to turn concern into action.
