Nelson Community Food Centre

The Nelson Food Cupboard is a barrier-free food bank; we allow people to come to our food bank as often as they need and don’t ask them to justify why they need our services. We respect their rights to privacy and dignity and aim to create a welcoming and safe atmosphere for all. We serve over 1,000 people every month and aim to meet their diverse family and dietary needs with healthy foods. Our Food Cupboard customers come from Nelson and the surrounding towns and rural areas. One quarter are children. Many of our customers struggle to make ends meet on social assistance, some work for low wages and support families, and others are in transitional periods of their lives. Additionally, we operate Harvest Rescue, a program that rescues unwanted fresh food from local farmers and gardeners and redistributes it at our food bank and other social service agencies in Nelson. We also give out bountiful Holiday Hampers to over 160 families and individuals at Christmastime.

Access Education - Guatemala Children's Fund

Access Education - Guatemala Children's Fund provides funding for children to attend elementary school in the Village of La Union. La Union's children and parents are largely illiterate. The school has 800 children registered yet there are more than 2000 more children that don't attend. We are interested in empowering these children through education so they have more choices in their lives. Access Education provides the requisite uniform, books and the entrance fee. For $75.00 per year a child has the chance to be free and autonomous. Illiteracy makes everyone dependant on the few. Illiteracy is slavery. We want to change this 'One person at a time - One Village at a time.'

(CII) helps children in Los Angeles's most challenged communities heal from the trauma of family and community violence, build the confidence and skills to break through the barriers of poverty, and grow up to lead healthy, productive lives. Established in 1906, CII now reaches more than 22,000 children and families each year through treatment, youth development, early childhood and family support services. We also work to inform the larger field of children's services through the research and professional development efforts of our Leadership Center. Bahay Tuluyan: Bahay Tuluyan is a children’s rights organisation based in the Philippines. Bahay Tuluyan’s programs and services are aimed at preventing and responding to abuse and violence against children in the Philippines. They work in three areas in the Philippines; Manila, Laguna and Quezon, delivering social services and programs on the street, in communities and within its centers. Bahay Tuluyan Philippines Australia (BTPA) was established primarily to support the work of Bahay Tuluyan.
