UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child, in everything we do. Together with our partners, we work in 190 countries and territories to translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, to the benefit of all children, everywhere. In all of its work, UNICEF takes a life-cycle based approach, recognizing the particular importance of early childhood development and adolescence. UNICEF programmes focus on the most disadvantaged children, including those living in fragile contexts, those with disabilities, those who are affected by rapid urbanization and those affected by environmental degradation. UNICEF was created with a distinct purpose in mind: to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child's path. We advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person's future. We promote girls' education - ensuring that they complete primary education as a minimum - because it benefits all children, both girls and boys. Girls who are educated grow up to become better thinkers, better citizens, and better parents to their own children. We act so that all children are immunized against common childhood diseases, and are well nourished: no child should suffer or die from a preventable illness. We work to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among young people because it is right to keep them from harm and enable them to protect others. We help children and families affected by HIV/AIDS to live their lives with dignity. We involve everyone in creating protective environments for children. We are present to relieve suffering during emergencies, and wherever children are threatened, because no child should be exposed to violence, abuse or exploitation. UNICEF upholds the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We work to assure equality for those who are discriminated against, girls and women in particular. We work for the Millennium Development Goals and for the progress promised in the United Nations Charter. We strive for peace and security. We work to hold everyone accountable to the promises made for children. We are part of the Global Movement for Children - a broad coalition dedicated to improving the life of every child. Through this movement, and events such as the United Nations Special Session on Children, we encourage young people to speak out and participate in the decisions that affect their lives. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital seeks to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of their founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay. St. Jude’s strives to be the world leader in advancing the treatment and prevention of catastrophic diseases in children, by providing outstanding patient care; conducting basic, translational and clinical research designed to elucidate biological mechanisms, understand disease pathogenesis, improve diagnosis, enhance treatment outcome, prevent diseases and minimize adverse consequences of treatment; and by educating health care and scientific research professionals. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago.

The Mission of the Children’s Charity Fund of the Bluegrass, Inc. is to establish and maintain an ongoing concerted fund-raising effort to benefit local charitable organizations which have as their primary goal the betterment of children of the Commonwealth.

Founded in 1988, the Howard Hanna Children's Free Care Fund raises money through annual "Chow Chow" events for children's free care funds at local children's hospitals and related programs/activities. We currently partner with 12 children's hospitals in market areas where the company does business: Hershey Medical Center (Hershey, PA), Hamot Foundation (Erie, PA), Shriners Children’s Hospital (Erie, PA) University Hospital/Rainbow Babies (Cleveland, OH), Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital (Cleveland, OH), MetroHealth (Cleveland, OH), Akron Children’s Hospital (Akron, OH), Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, OH), C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital (Ann Arbor, MI), Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (Norfolk, VA), Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo/John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital (Buffalo, NY).across PA, OH, NY, MI and VA.

TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO UNDER-PRIVILEGED TARAHUMARA INDIANS

Nelson House is a non-profit shelter, established in 1992 following three years of planning and effort by a large number of women in the city of Nepean and across the region. Nelson House provides emergency shelter and social services for women and children who are fleeing abuse in their lives. The Board and staff run a facility known as a first-stage emergency shelter where women and children benefit from transitional housing and programs for up to 10 weeks. The core of Nelson House's service is the Residential Program, which serves on average 150 women and children per year. The 15-bed residence offers a warm home-like setting with accommodation for women with and without children. The Crisis line answers more than 1500 calls annually, responding to the needs of women in crisis by providing support and information on safety planning, access to community services, and advocating for women to find a safe place to stay.
