Be The Change Volunteers (BTCV) is a development aid non-profit with a mission to improve education opportunities worldwide. We serve in areas all over the globe from the Americas, Africa, South Pacific to Asia. We build, refurbish, equip and train schools and education centers utilizing donor gifts, international and local volunteers.

Through our community-based art projects, which serve schools, hospices, shelters, community centres and prisons, we create synergetic experiences that give both our facilitating artists and our participants a means of expression to find their authentic voice using a variety of artistic modes. Our objectives are: -To bring music and art to the broadest possible demographic, allowing people the chance to experience, make and do art themselves. -To connect and impact the creators and audience of our art by enabling participants to become agents of change in their own lives through the act of collective art making. -To advocate for the value of the arts by illustrating their broad-reaching benefits through our projects, performances, and stories. -To create a sustainable organization, using diversified funding strategies and by developing numerous community partnerships.

Some of our activities include homelessness relief, creating peace gardens from abandoned lots, addressing urban food deserts utilizing vertical gardens to grow food, creating safe spaces for youth, young women empowerment programs and so much more! It is our mission to offer crisis intervention, supportive counseling and comprehensive referral services to surviving family members throughout Chicago following homicide; to work collaboratively to provide training in sensitive and effective communication with and treatment of victim’ families to law enforcement, court personnel, medical examiner’s office, emergency rooms and other systems related to the aftermath of homicide; to foster a community of survivors who may derive empathy, support, education and healing from one another, and contribute to anti-violence work through their collective voice and experience.

This organization provides a safe sanctuary for any animal in need, offers a variety of educational classes, community outreach and workshops, and provides volunteer and internship opportunities to plant seeds of hope.

Each month we provide 34,000 pounds of emergency food relief to up to 500 hungry families, and usage of the Food bank continues to rise. 41% of our clients are children. We make all efforts to provide healthy, balanced food choices and to ensure that the food provided can, to whatever extent possible, fit various cultural and dietary needs. We also strive to provide basic need items, like personal care and hygiene products.
