Hello everyone, Ashley the Fellow at International HELP (IHELP) here! IHELP's mission is to educate, empower, and equip local people as Community Health Workers (CHWs) to improve the health of their community. Through the knowledge and skills on various topics, CHWs go out in their communities to prevent disease, provide basic at-home care to illness, and recognize danger signs to refer people to the local clinic or hospital.
Throughout my fellowship at IHELP, I've had the opportunity to visit and train over 100 CHWs in Central America and Africa. I've seen firsthand the way that our CHW trainings have positively impacted the lives and health of our CHWs, their families, and the greater community. It has been a privilege accompanying our CHWs around the world, and watching them learn and empowering them to be the main agents of change in their community.
On Saturday, April 27th, I will run the Greater St. Louis GO! Half Marathon. This year, IHELP hopes to implement new projects in El Salvador, from training new CHWs with our initial training, and furthering the education of existing CHWs in advanced nutrition. You can help us make these projects a reality! My goal is to raise $1310, $100 per mile of my half marathon. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards implementation costs of our 2024 El Salvador projects. By sponsoring a mile in whatever capacity (whether that's $1 or $100 towards a mile's goal), you can help educate, empower, and equip CHWs in El Salvador this year!
