West End Donner Lake Firewise Community
Make Donner Lake more fire resilient!
Our goal is to develop a strategy to make the West End and South Shore of Donner Lake and the surrounding area more fire resilient. We will do this through community outreach, education and collaborative efforts to reduce fire insurance costs and protect our homes and properties by removing dead and downed trees throughout our neighborhoods. The West End of Donner Lake (WEDL) Firewise Alliance, run by a voluntary board of homeowners, is a 501c3 nonprofit organization so all contributions to these efforts are TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. Additionally, as a nonprofit community, we can apply for and receive public and private foundation grants to support these initiatives. Our top priorities are the following:
1. Reduce fire insurance costs for our community.
2. Evacuation Planning (Ex. Preparedness and Routing) and Wildfire Preparedness
3. Educate and inform residents and landowners of Defensible Space tactics and Home Hardening techniques.
