THE VIRGINIA HOSPITAL CENTER MEDICAL BRIGADE'S MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF COMMUNITIES IN HONDURAS. FOUNDED IN 1999, TO PROVIDE DISASTER RELIEF IN HONDURAS, THE BRIGADE NOW DIRECTS ITS EFFORTS IN PROVIDING COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND INTERVENTIONS SUCH AS CLEAN WATER, EDUCATION, NUTRITION AND THE TRAINING OF COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS. IT CONTINUES TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF SERVICES CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE IN HONDURAS AND TO COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL PARTNERS.

White Plains Hospital's mission extends beyond inpatient and outpatient care to include assessing and improving the health status of the local community, the professional community and the business sector. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC also endeavors to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. Established in 1863, the ICRC is the origin of the Geneva Conventions and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It directs and coordinates the international activities conducted by the Movement in armed conflicts and other situations of violence.
