The Family Center

Mission: To break multi-generational cycles of child abuse, neglect, and trauma. Vision: That all children will grow up in safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments. That child abuse and neglect is recognized as a serious public health concern that causes lifetime physical, psychological and behavioral problems for children and impacts communities for generations. Changing lives... Changing families... Changing futures Research demonstrates that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) have the potential to disrupt child development leading to potential life-long challenges, including poor emotional/physical health. While positive childhood experiences can build strong, healthy brains and lay the foundation for emotional/ social successes, negative experiences often perpetuate cycles of abuse, neglect, and trauma increasing behavioral problems, substance abuse, and incarceration rates. The Family Center works alongside families through group and in-home sessions helping parents recognize the impact of ACEs on early brain development, how to build resiliency in their children, and positive ways to engage with and support their children. We believe that community outreach, advocacy, and professional training is essential to increase awareness of the effects of ACEs community-wide and make systems changes to benefit generations of Tennesseans. The Family Center is a licensed child abuse prevention agency serving middle Tennessee.

WOMENS RESOURCE CENTER - OCEANSIDE

Women's Resource Center (WRC) believes that all people should be free from the crimes of domestic violence and sexual assault. Those who are victims of these crimes should have access to services that assist them in recovering from their trauma and moving forward in their lives. Women's Resource Center is dedicated to providing the highest quality supportive services, counseling, shelter and education to women, men and children involved in or threatened by domestic violence or sexual assault. Women's Resource Center vision is that the agency is the recognized leader in providing quality, compassionate, innovative services to families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Through Women's Resource Center's education of future generations, victim empowerment and community awareness, we will create an environment where domestic violence and sexual assault are neither tolerated nor accepted. Women's Resource Center's Core Values support the agency's mission and drive program planning toward the achievement of our vision. Specifically: 1) Domestic violence and sexual assault are always wrong and must be stopped.; 2) These crimes impact the entire community and the community has a moral obligation to take ownership of the problem and its solutions.; 3) Everyone has a right to live in a violence-free home where they are treated with respect and dignity.; and, 4) Victims can be empowered to enhance their lives.

Southampton Day Care Center Inc

The Southampton Day Care Center – “Fountain of Youth” -was founded in 1985. We are one of the only non-profit day care centers in the Town of Southampton. Throughout the years we continue to make every effort to provide the finest early childhood experience for children in the Southampton community, as well as surrounding neighborhoods. We have successfully created an environment that is safe, nurturing and respectful to the needs of each child. We pride ourselves in focusing on the whole child, and maintaining emotional, social and cognitive development on a daily basis. This is our continuing mission. As such, it is our expressed purpose to provide quality programs for our young students; including language development, math, art, science, music, fine & large motor skills, and writing techniques. Play is seen as one of the most profound means available to children for refining and integrating their knowledge and development of language and social skills, along with primary development of self-esteem and individuality. We look forward to meeting you and working with your children. The Southampton Day Care Center admits children 2-5 years of age. The Center does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, sexual orientation or national origin in the administration of our educational policies, or any other Center operated activity. The National Association for Education of Young Children influences our philosophy. The New York State Office of Child and Family Services license us. We have a current and continual contract with Department of Social Services. Our commitment to the community is evident through the generous grants and donations received from organizations such as: Southampton Town, Southampton Village, as well as private donations. Parent fees only cover approximately 60% of our operating costs.

Ymca Of Superior California

The YMCA of Superior California was formed as a result of the merger of the Yolo County, Yuba-Sutter, Oroville and Greater Sacramento YMCAs and now encompasses five service areas - Sacramento, Yolo, Oroville, Gold Country, and Yuba-Sutter; each volunteer-led, and each a powerful advocate for the needs of children, families and individuals in their communities. We are the continuation of a 150 year legacy of providing values-based programs for youth, teens, adults and seniors at YMCA facilities and program sites throughout the region. And, while our programs are based on the unique needs and interests of the communities in which they reside, each of our Y’s has one thing in common: our people. World Rehabilitation Fund

Founded in 1955, the World Rehabilitation Fund is the pioneer organization devoted to the development and implementation of rehabilitation programs for people with disabilities throughout the world. WRF's mission is: to enable individuals around the world with functional limitations and participation restrictions achieve community and social integration through physical and socio-economic rehabilitation and advocacy; and to prevent disability and reduce disadvantage. WRF believes that all people, regardless of disability, have the right to participate fully in their communities, to attain education and viable employment. Guiding Principles The WRF staff works closely with local and international partners to develop culturally appropriate initiatives that address all aspects of rehabilitation, from incident through reintegration by: Strengthening the capacity of indigenous organizations to better meet the needs of people in states of disadvantage due to various forms of disabilities. Developing community-based programs for physical, psychological, and socio-economic rehabilitation and reintegration. Upgrading skills of rehabilitation service providers such as physicians, therapists, health promoters, nurses, social workers, and vocational rehabilitation specialists. Collaborating with industry and local professionals to enhance vocational training, skills-building, and job placement programs to create sustainable employment and income-generating entrepreneurial opportunities. Training rehabilitation professionals throughout the world in the fabrication and fitting of artificial limbs, orthopedic braces, and other assistive technology appropriate for the geographic area they serve. Ensuring that people with disabilities are part of the team from start to finish.

(WORD) is one of Missoula’s longest established and most experienced non-profit organizations. Since our founding in 1986, WORD has spearheaded, supported and participated with organizations, agencies and individuals who are committed to building community in Missoula. Vision: At WORD we envision a socially just world where each person is valued and all are empowered to fulfill their potential. We aim to build, through collective action, the socioeconomic, cultural and political conditions that ensure equality, independence and full participation for all. We believe that these conditions are indispensable to the health and sustainability of families, communities and society as a whole. Arkansas Sheriff's Youth Ranches

The Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches' mission is to address, remedy, and prevent child abuse and neglect by creating safe, healthy, and permanent homes for children. Our philosophy has always been that it is better to build a child rather than repair an adult. Founded in 1976 by a group of sheriffs and concerned citizens, the Ranch began as a single cottage (mobile home) that served as shelter to three young boys. The Ranch now consists of three campuses across Arkansas with eight cottages for boys and girls. During its history, the Ranch has been "a place to call home" to more than 1,200 children and touched the lives of many more. Many of the children who come to the Ranch are often the product of a broken home of abuse and neglect, lacking the nurturing relationship of a loving family. The Ranch provides a healthy home environment filled with emotional support to help each child learn to trust those around them and cope with their emotions, all the while learning responsibility and building self-confidence. When children enter the Ranch, they are surrounded with individuals who care about their immediate needs and their future aspirations. It is the Ranch’s commitment to every child – a commitment that extends from the Board of Directors to management personnel, administrative staff, house parents, support staff and volunteers – to help them believe in themselves and lead fulfilling, meaningful lives. Residents may stay at the Ranch through post-secondary education until they are socially and financially prepared for independence and have stable employment. More than 900 children have experienced life at the Ranch, and for those and many in the future, the Ranch will always be a place to call home.

Central Coast Funds for Children

Central Coast Funds for Children was established to benefit children in need of special services in San Luis Obispo County. We are a publicly supported, non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization. All donations are tax-deductible (Identification No. 77-0338513), and all donations stay in our county to help local children. CCFC has no paid staff – all activities are run by volunteers. Less than 6% of the income raised goes to expenses. Funds are raised through private and business donations, dues and special fundraising events. All monies are generated by volunteer membership of Central Coast Funds For Children. Applications for these funds are received throughout the year. From our 1994 start until 2012 the funds granted total over a Million Dollars ($1,213,915). This year – 2013 – CCFC continues to raise funds to benefit children in need in San Luis Obispo County. Funds are granted to local non-profit organizations (through a grant application process) to benefit children’s programs in San Luis Obispo County. CCFC raises monies through annual support drives, as well as several fundraising events throughout the year, as well as ongoing community projects. There are two prime signature events; CCFC Annual Soup Supper held each September and our newest event, Christmas in November. CCFC members also volunteer at several community events held primarily for children: Children’s Day in the Plaza and Morro Bay Kite Festival are just two of them. CCFC also participates with local business merchants to earn a percentage of profits for the day; California Pizza Kitchen, Applebee’s and New Frontiers market to name a few. Members also volunteer each year at Camp Reach for the Stars (one of our many Grant Recipients); this camp is for children with cancer and their families. CCFC also makes “Sunshine Sacks” for the Family Care Network. We invite you to join us as we continue our goal to raise Donations and Grant that money to agencies that help children in San Luis Obispo County.

Educare DC

Educare DC’s mission is to eliminate the opportunity gap for young children living in poverty, and give them the skills necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond. The first Educare school was created in 2000 in Chicago’s Robert Taylor Homes public housing development. The Educare model of high-quality, research-based early childhood education has since been piloted, refined, and strengthened in communities across the country, and it has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness in improving outcomes for young children ages birth to five. Opened in July 2012 and located in DC’s Ward 7 neighborhood of Parkside-Kenilworth, Educare DC is a part of the national Educare network, which is comprised of 24 high-quality, research-based early childhood schools. We serve more than 300 children ages birth to five in our state-of-the-art early learning center and through community partnerships in Wards 7 and 8. At Educare DC, well-trained and prepared teachers work with children to develop school readiness skills, including pre-literacy, early math, and social/emotional skills. Our family engagement team focuses on parent development as a means to supporting each child. This two-generation approach enables parents to see and believe in themselves as community leaders, advocates, and the drivers of their children’s education. Our comprehensive services team monitors children’s health, development, and overall well-being and works with teachers, parents, and outside service providers to meet the needs of children who may be experiencing a health challenge, disability, or delay. While the core work of Educare DC is as a school, we also work to leverage that expertise to improve outcomes for vulnerable children not enrolled at Educare, through training programs and advocacy in the DC region.

Five Acres The Boys & Girls Aid Society Of Los Angeles County

Originally founded in downtown LA as an orphanage, our initial mission was simply to provide safety to children who had no home. In time, our mission expanded to also focus on the well-being of our clients and caring for the mental and emotional health of children who were increasingly coming to us as a result of abuse or neglect. Having grown to an agency caring for nearly 8,700 children and family members annually across five counties, we now strive for permanency – a permanent, loving home – for all those in our care. These three pillars; safety, well-being and permanency provide the framework for all of Five Acres’ current programs and they will guide our steps in the future as we continue seeking even more effective means of caring for children and families in crisis. For over 129 years Five Acres has been committed to preserving successful childcare programs and developing innovative services for children and families in crisis. With over 100,000 clients served since its founding in 1888, Five Acres currently cares for 8,700 children and families annually, across five counties including Los Angeles. Safety For over 129 years, children’s safety has been one of our priorities. Five Acres works to address and heal the trauma that effects children and their families so that children can grow safely and thrive within a loving family Well-being Healthy families are more likely to remain intact and enjoy a greater level of well-being. Five Acres believes families stay together when they are provided with essential prevention and intervention resources for success Permanency Five Acres actively strives to provide a sense of belonging by connecting children to caring adults with safe, permanent and loving families. With strong stability and the chance to stay in a loving home, children are able to rebuild their sense of belonging and grow.

Melel Xojobal A.C.

Melel Xojobal is a children's rights organization based in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Our mission is to promote and defend the rights of indigenous children and young people through participatory educational programs that improve their quality of life. At Melel Xojobal we work in a participatory manner to promote the strengthening of indigenous cultural identity, to defend human rights, to strengthen personal and cultural dignity, to ensure that justice and liberty are respected, and that the participation of all is ensured regardless of race, gender, creed, religious affiliation or ideology. We believe that education is a fundamental means by which people exercise self-determination and become the authors of their own history. Melel Xojobal's specific objectives are: 1. To implement participatory educational programmes with indigenous girls, boys, and young people to promote and defend their rights to health, education, protection from mistreatment, to regulated conditions of work, association and expression. 2. To generate through ongoing research a better understanding of child welfare, human rights and education in an urban context. 3. To inform and educate the Mexican public about the human rights of indigenous girls, boys, and young people of Chiapas. 4. To exchange and share ideas and experiences from a human rights perspective which relate to indigenous infant, childhood, and adolescent education among organizations on a national and international level. All of our work is guided by the aim of protecting and promoting five human rights established by the Convention on the Rights of the Child (Rights to health, to education, to protection against all forms of mistreatment, to work, and to freedom of expression and association). Our work responds to the situation of indigenous peoples in Mexico, who account for around 10% of the population, and continue to live in conditions that marginalise them socially, economically and politically and which push them to the edge of society. To provide an indication of the need for our work: according to government statistices, in the city we work in, in 2010 61% of the population had no formal right to medical services; 24% of the population aged 3-18 did not attend school. In 2010 we formally counted 2,481 child workers in the city. In 2005 in Chiapas as a whole, 71% of the population under 14 lived in municipalities classified as being at high or extreme risk of malnutrition; in some municipalities infant mortality rates 75 in a 1000, on a par with several countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Powerful Beyond Measure

Powerful Beyond Measure (PBM) is a 501c3 non-profit that implements efforts towards youth and community development; focusing on creative, academic, professional, civic, social and personal growth by strategically integrating the arts, entertainment, sports and media industries into programming. Our vision is to utilize these influential fields to effectively reach the urban communities of our targeted youth, via multi-dimensional services that will help positively shape young people and empower the adults around them to become active leaders and contributors. We aim towards the following: o To impact urban youth by exposing them to enriching and positive experiences, opportunities, and adults – leading them towards a greater chance for a productive adult life and away from negative endeavors o To create alliances with other non-profits to support them by developing a collective effort to assist and empower those around us; as well as support like-minded organizations with resources and services. o To help lower income families experience the same rights as those of greater income i.e. education, job training & access, programs and food/clothing – through volunteerism and information PBM uses the arts, entertainment and sports as tools to motivate. This approach was developed upon the realization that these fields are powerful by way of their appeal and influence on our target population. By harnessing that power to make programs more appealing, we can continue to implement the important values and societal offerings of more conventional non-profits. Powerful Beyond Measure believes we can help each other realize our potential for greatness, inspire the pursuit of success, and make powerful strides by working together for altruistic purposes. Founded in 2006, the organization began with its charter program, C.A.P.E. League (see below) – a multi-dimensional youth enrichment program. In 2007, we launched Exploring Possibilities, a unique career day for teens and young adults to discover non-traditional professions. Since 2008, we have produced PBM's Weekly Source Email – an on-line newsletter distributed to DC area residents, community groups and non-profits. It lists public events, job openings, services, scholarships and programs. In 2017, PBM will re-launch the Triple I Program to provide young adults with the opportunity to gain professional experience through hands-on work, mentorship, workshops and giving back.
