Arkansas Sheriff's Youth Ranches

The Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches' mission is to address, remedy, and prevent child abuse and neglect by creating safe, healthy, and permanent homes for children. Our philosophy has always been that it is better to build a child rather than repair an adult. Founded in 1976 by a group of sheriffs and concerned citizens, the Ranch began as a single cottage (mobile home) that served as shelter to three young boys. The Ranch now consists of three campuses across Arkansas with eight cottages for boys and girls. During its history, the Ranch has been "a place to call home" to more than 1,200 children and touched the lives of many more. Many of the children who come to the Ranch are often the product of a broken home of abuse and neglect, lacking the nurturing relationship of a loving family. The Ranch provides a healthy home environment filled with emotional support to help each child learn to trust those around them and cope with their emotions, all the while learning responsibility and building self-confidence. When children enter the Ranch, they are surrounded with individuals who care about their immediate needs and their future aspirations. It is the Ranch’s commitment to every child – a commitment that extends from the Board of Directors to management personnel, administrative staff, house parents, support staff and volunteers – to help them believe in themselves and lead fulfilling, meaningful lives. Residents may stay at the Ranch through post-secondary education until they are socially and financially prepared for independence and have stable employment. More than 900 children have experienced life at the Ranch, and for those and many in the future, the Ranch will always be a place to call home.

Final Salute

The mission of Final Salute Inc. is to provide homeless women Veterans with safe and suitable housing. It is estimated that there are currently 55,000 homeless women Veterans in the United States on any given day. For the sacrifices they and their families have made, this is an unacceptable state for any of them to be in. Final Salute Inc. believes in paying women Veterans with the proper respects due to them for the service they have provided to our country. Final Salute also works with the Veteran in establishing her plan towards independence. Veteran Homelessness White Paper V2.pdf We were established to identify and meet the unique needs of homeless women Veterans. On December 23, 2011, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported "More than 60 percent of surveyed Grant Per Diem (GPD) programs that serve homeless women veterans did not house children, and most programs that did house children had restrictions on the ages or numbers of children. In our survey, GPD providers cited lack of housing for women with children as a significant barrier to accessing veteran housing. In addition, several noted there were financial disincentives for providers, as VA does not have the statutory authority to reimburse them for costs of housing veterans’ children. Limited housing for women and their children puts these families at risk of remaining homeless". "A recent report from the VA inspector general examining veteran housing that receive VA grants found bedrooms and bathrooms without locks, poorly lit hallways and women housed in facilities approved for men only. Nearly a third of the 26 facilities reviewed didn't have adequate safety precautions. One woman veteran and her 18-month-old son were placed in the same facility as a male veteran who was a registered sex offender." - AP . The needs of homeless female Veterans are immediate. They need your support today!

Gifts For The Homeless

Gifts for the Homeless, Inc. ("GFTH") is a nonprofit organization founded and staffed by volunteers from the Washington, D.C. area legal community. The principal objective of GFTH is to raise money for the purchase of new clothing and collect donations of certain types of used clothing and other needed items from attorneys and staff of Washington, D.C. area law firms, government agencies, in-house corporate legal departments and other legal organizations. In pursuing this objective, the GFTH Board of Directors has established the following priorities: to reach the homeless who live on the street in all four quadrants of the District of Columbia; to reach the homeless who live in shelters and in transitional housing; to reach the homeless in neighboring communities outside the District of Columbia when, and if, GFTH believes it has fully served the needs of the District; and to build a reputation for reliability by working with a core group of homeless service providers. GFTH does not typically distribute clothing directly to individuals living on the street, but works through a network of over 70 homeless service providers that include shelters, temporary residences and soup kitchens and wagons. GFTH pursues its objectives through a two-track approach. GFTH solicits direct monetary donations from the Washington, D.C. area legal community to purchase new clothes. Typically, items purchased include: (1) warm winter accessories, such as hats and gloves; (2) undergarments, such as thermals, socks and underwear; and (3) heavy bedding items, such as polar fleeces. GFTH also accepts donations of certain types of used clothing and other needed items during a large clothing drive each fall. The used clothing effort seeks to obtain those items most frequently requested by homeless service providers: (1) warm winter clothing, such as winter coats, sweaters and turtlenecks; (2) business attire, such as suits, shirts, blouses, ties and shoes; and (3) household linens, such as sheets, pillowcases and towels.
